Official iPad (2012 model) Accessories Thread

Thinking of getting an iPad tomorrow. I was planning on buying the Smart cover which will protect the front when not in use, and the back when in use. I wanted something that i can put it in when it is in my bag (so the back does not get scratched. It has to be big enough to store the iPad with the smart cover on.

Any suggestions (preferably something I can buy on the high street, or for fast delivery if substantially cheaper online)? I would expect to pay less than the £35 the smart cover costs!!

Was like £10 when I bought it :(

Picture with it open please? How good is it really what the flip like to fasten cover?
Sorry, not the best photos.

The flap was my biggest concern, though it isn't as bad as I thought it would be. It takes a bit of work though.
Terrible video and I couldn't tell if the phone was pointing at the case, if I was doing it normally it would've been easier. So yeah its a bit of a fight sometimes, but I figure when I'm using the iPad it will be for a reasonable amount of time. If i'm at home I just won't bother closing the flap.

Yup, fits with my case on (shown on previous page)!

Thanks, I just checked all your posts in this thread but can't find a picture. Can only find your ones after your initial purchase but the case is empty. Doesn't matter as one of the Amazon reviews confirms that it fits iPad3 with smart cover on.

I may walk around a few shops and see if anyone has it instore. I don't mind paying extra to get instant protection, if not I will order it online and wait a few days.

Yeah, didn't post a picture of it. Its a great price, as I said it fits with my Skinny on (obviously thicker than the smart cover), comfortably.

Perfect (a picture is worth a thousand words etc! :) ).

Knowing my luck I am going to see some ridiculously priced case in the Apple Store ad end up buying that instead!!! If I am honest i don't know what I really want, but I thought a smart cover and a Belkin sleeve would cover me fairly well without breaking the bank!

It's a nice combo, I was just using it myself (the smart cover is now returned). My only concern was the back, if I was keeping that 'setup' I would want a skin or protector on the back.

The way I looked at it (maybe incorrectly) was that when the iPad is in use the smart cover would be folded over the back, protecting it. When not in use both would be in the Belkin case.

I really don't want to end up with lots of scratches on the back, like my old iPod touch did. Might consider a see through skin for the back in the future.

Makes sense, as long as you put it in the sleeve often =)

Well those blimmin iPod touches scratch loads! The state of my 1st and 3rd gen were terrible, the iPad will scratch yes. But I can't see it being as bad.

Another question:

Is the Smart Cover the same for iPad2 and iPad3? Some sites have a distinction, but others do not and I don't want to buy the wrong one.

Meh, I caved :(

Ordered the new Coverbuddy for my iPad3 from SwitchEasy. I'm still a bit annoyed that they've come up with a "one size fits all" solution and concerned it may not fit as well as the older model did but, as I loved it on my iPad2 so much, I've decided to take a punt.

Will be a few weeks before I get it but will report here when I do.

Has anyone got a vinyl (I think that is what they are called) on the back of their iPad? I just want one on the back, not on both sides.

I want something as thin as possible that will prevent scratching on the back. Also, presumably, vinyls are fairly cheap as they are just fancy "sticky back plastic"!

I was thinking of just getting a see through one (surely they must be available) so it will not look so obvious that I have one on. Coloured ones (imo) would look too obvious where the cutouts are. Also I am not sure if these would affect the functionality of the Smart Cover magnets.

I currently have a Gelaskin on the back of mine. They do full front and back sets but I opted just for the back for protection when putting it down.

It works well. The 3M vinyl they use is pretty tough so will resist most scratches. You'd really have to go some to penetrate it and scratch the back of the iPad underneath.

At the edges, it goes right up and over the taper to where the metal meets the glass front. There are cut-outs for the switches, connectors and speaker. It was a bit fiddly lining it up properly but you can keep peeling it off and re-applying without losing adhesion. The corners are cut-out so, when laid flat, the vinyl looks like a rectangle with a 'flap' on each side if you know what I mean.

I use a Smart Cover and it works fine. The hinge magnet simply works through the vinyl, obviously, and perhaps might even alleviate slight marks over time from repeated re-attachment of the cover.

They're not cheap as you have to get them shipped from the US and it can take a few weeks to arrive but you can choose from loads of different patterns or upload your own.

Any links to where you import them from? Is there no equivalent in the UK? I don't think I can wait multiple weeks as I am bound to scratch it by then.

Also I am not sure what you mean about the corners. Can you take a few pictures of yours?
