*****Official Ivybridge Review Thread*****

Intel ivybridge = fail

Why would ( going by the reviews ) anybody go with ib over sb seems pointless imo , they cost more run hotter when overclocked .

All this hype for what exactly

I see you are one of the small percentage of the CPU market who like overclock a lot. For you it SB & IB are about the same.
For everyone else. It is faster at stock, uses less power, and has much faster graphics capabilities. They don't care much for you, face it.

OcUK bundles seem to support that. They're doing 4.6Ghz, that's a very encouraging figure.

agreed does look encouraging - I think I'll go Ivy rather than Sandy

all these voltages look silly low to me :) I have to use 1.51V (actual - 1.5875 bios) for my Q6600 to run at 3.45 !!

IB is destined to get that reputation. The hive mind has already decided it runs hot, and you can be sure everybody with Sandy Bridge is going to be making themselves feel better about not having Ivy Bridge by telling people with Ivy Bridge that their CPUs suck.

It depends on what you're after... if you want to hit 5Ghz for the fun of it and you don't want to go for a high end waterblock then Sandy Bridge seems to be the right choice. If your mum and dad pay the electricity then all the better.

If you want a moderate overclock then the reviews are overwhelmingly saying IB is the right choice.

In all honesty though I don't see a great deal of difference between SB and IB. There's nuances of flavour between them, but there's no ground shattering differences - and you can see that by the lack of a price hike.

LOL wat?

@ The Halk
Is nothing to do with being a fanboy i enjoy overclocking and when these chips are hitting 90 to 100 temps @ 4.6-4.7 with 1.2 v that just seems a little to hot tbh

@MonsterMoshi

Maybe i should have said ( Why would ( going by the reviews ) anybody who enjoys overclocking go with ib over sb, seems pointless imo )
my bad

its less heat to get rid of :)

heat is different than temps remember ...... heat is power output which is different to temps

I'm not keen on high cpu temps though

(Gone IB by the way) Given a choice I wouldn't mind the chance to get the heat into and out of the case, less than before though it is, I'd rather a warm heatsink and cool core rather than the other way around - but if that's how it is then so be it.
