*****Official Ivybridge Review Thread*****

Why not use the cooler which OCUK are using for their overclocked bundles? I assume that they have tested out the coolers which work best with the IB and concluded that the following cooler works best:

Cooler: Prolimatech Megahalems Black CPU Cooler w/ Sharkoon Silent Eagle 2000RPM 120mm Fan

All their overclocked IB bundles are using that.

All bundles at 4.6ghz as well. Considering that a lot of reviews were unable to get above 4.5ghz with some very good air cooling setups, that will be interesting to see.

Without reading the whole thread, is it fair to say that IB bridge is not worth the upgrade if you already own a i7-2700K/ i7 2600k/ i5 2500k?

The OC potential is also a little disappointing regarding temperatures?

Very fair - Just getting the usual 10% gain clock per clock

But is a very good leap for those who use Intel Quick Sync or use the IGP for gaming

ditto - trying to find this out for myself also.

From what I gather oc is slightly better but the heat production is far more than SB which in all fairness doesn't make sense.

Early days - pan it out a few more days for a better sample of results

Nice cooler but will it be better than an H80 or H100

H80, yes - H100, no. You have to bear in mind that the H series get really noisy with their stock fans while the top end air coolers run much quiter.

I was going to get the H80 for my FT02 build, but I didn't think I could live with the noise so I went with the Noctua. The Phanteks and Silver Arrow perform similarly (The SA and Noctua perform slightly better until you get to extreme voltage, where the Phanteks just nicks them), but I prefer the overall better build quality of the Noctua. All three are great air coolers though, so you can't go wrong with either of them.

The H series do free up some space around your CPU, allowing for taller RAM sticks, but as I said, I didn't think I could live with the noise.

I think I will go for the Sandy but really don't know whether to go for the Z68 or the newer Z77 motherboard. Any ideas?

I think Z77 is the better option, as it gives the option of IB at a later date. I think that a lot of Z77 boards offer a few extra features over Z68 too, even if it never sees an IB chip.
