******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

latest drama has passed me by as I've dropped off following the development quite a bit recently. Do think is daft to charge though this should be one of the things sub charges cover imho. I personally wouldn't watch random Q&A sessions though talk about watching paint dry. give me the keynote only.

^^ exactly opinion.

If adults want to buy stuff, then off they pop. I don't care what they throw their money at. I do think (in my opinion) that $27,000 is insane though.

The concept originally sounded fantastic and I nearly took the plunge myself. The con continues though and people continue to put money into a game that exists only in their head. As the years go on the less cutting edge this looks.

I disagree a bit, we were talking about the game last night in its current state and we've had over the years a ton of fun testing things out. I'm not talking a few dozen hours here but hundreds of hours each. The frustrating thing isn't that there's no game but that it feels just out of reach, as they focus on other things rather than testing netcode and optimisation improvements which would have an immediate effect.

I guess that's a perspective from those who have been very deeply involved for a number of years, is not that there's no good product, it's just the neverending nature of the twists and turns as different elements arrive at different times, it's never quite getting it's ducks in a neat row.

I'm still hopeful.. but as I've been saying for a number of years now I don't recommend anyone buying in at this point, sit on that cash until there's some reviews of a released single player campaign to begin with.

On mobile so probably full of typos.

Arknor, since you like to dip in here now and then, can you explain how you can win Star Citizen should (let's just play fantasy for a moment) it actually be released?

Serious question, keep hearing it's play 2 win but not actually aware of what there is to win..

I'm sure we've discussed this at least a dozen times in the thread already to be honest. CIG have made numerous mistakes, learnt from some, not from others. I've no doubt they'll keep making them in the future but fingers crossed that actually put something out that's actually worth playing eventually because the current bodged together mess has very limited appeal.

Might make a decent benchmarking demo if 3DMARK bought it though..

That roadmap hahahahahahahahahahahahaha, I really hope these idiots get sued or go bust. Money grabbing waste of time. It's a shame as it will hurt genuine indie kickstarter groups, well it already has.
the likes of Rimworld are what early access and crowd funded games should be like, they have over delivered by comparison.

The woman in the background looks like Rhona Mitra:

Good because that's her character lol

I don’t think it will fail. At the very least we will get Squadron 42 which would be fine by me.

Star Citizen probably won’t hit beta for another 2 years judging by what I have seen, but I am hoping they can finish Squadron 42 by end of next year. It will shut a load of mouths at least :D

I don't care when they finishes SQ42, I also don't really care about those moaning constantly. I'd like the game to come out when it's ready in the eyes of those behind it, much like Rimworld has. There is no point punting it out just to silence critics, because firstly it won't - some will never be happy with what they get and secondly many aren't the target audience anyway.

The game is big enough not to need them IMHO, bonus if they change their minds but certainly no longer necessary. Let them bitch and whinge about it.

^^ also @jonneymendoza Those who did back before the delays etc have had a couple of years to claim a full refund which CIG weren't legally required to offer. So they haven't lost out financially due to the delays.

Also @CHokKA good taste in games, I'd throw Rimworld in there are one of the best indy games of the past 20 years on PC. It's just been released officially now.

This game can't be released in 2 years. It has no game play loop and no mechanics other than a broken flight model and rock mining. Even if they finish working on the art assets in the next 2 years, which has been the main focus of the past 6 years, they need at least 3 years to create the game play elements they promised. This project would be a highly demanding job for hardened industry veterans but CIG mainly has beginners who learned the trade on the job (except the Crytek guys). They will keep producing art until the funds dry up, at which point they will release whatever they have ready (not much). How some of you are blind to this, despite the company's history clearly showing it, is beyond me.

Blah blah blah etc.

What fools we are for having fun and spending our money how we want. Should be illegal tbh! Scandalous the claims people have been enjoying the process so far!

Burn us at the stake - but only if it's in appropriately glorious fidelity.
