PFA Player of the Year Nomination's

The fans player of the month doesn't really give any real reflection of a players seasonal performance though:)
No its just there opinion of there performance for that month. Just like the award is tonight is on the performances up to the time of the vote and at the time of the votes Gerrard was at his best (pretty sure the votes were in January). As i said above; i just thought it was worth a mention

Good to see Terry win it, it is deserved.

However someone did make a fair comment on the BBC website which read "what does lampard have to do to win it", which I do kind of agree with.

Thought Terry has been questionable all season, he doesn't fill me with confidence.

Also, Gerrard hasn't played well at all this past 2 months, but he's a quality player, won it because of the Champions League though.

Rooney is in another class to him. Infact, Rooney is in a different class to everyone bar Henry and Ronaldinho.

Cant agree with that, yet. Yes rooney is good but he still needs to prove himself by winning honours like the league, world and euro cups too. Only then can he be a true great (but yes he has the potential to be).

???????
He is 20 years old.

What was Henry doing when he 20?
Or indeed Ronaldinho?
I think Henry was festering in a reserve team somwhere and Ronnie was arsing around in france.
He is already on a par with them for the impact he has on games, if not outright skill (which he simply doesnt have).

Can anyone clarify when the judging of a player begins and ends. Is the Player of the Year based on the start of this season in August to now? Because if it is, I really don't see how Gerrard 'should' win it. Last year, I would have said yes, but this year with Rooney in excellent form since last October...and has improved as the season had gone on...

@ Naan_H - Rooney can play his heart out every single game, every year and still not win a trophy of note. Players like him need a solid team around him and he has not had what you would call a solid team for most of this season. He has been head and shoulders above every other player at Old Trafford this season, and as a Man Utd fan who has watched every game we've played this season, we would be much lower in the league without him. I keep hearing Liverpool fans bringing up stats that they play better and win more games without Gerrard but they'll still back him as player of the year in what appears to be a relatively poor season for him compared to previous years?

I dont doubt him becoming a true great, cos yes at 20 he is playing very well, but to already compare him to the best that have ever been he has to win more honours (and i think with him for England that can happen). I just think it is premature to say that, and also it puts pressure on the lad to perform :)

The impact steven gerrard has had on games has been seen too, as shown in the CL games last season. But i dont think u can say gerrard is aboe ronnie and Henry.

I dont believe this, im a pool fan but NOT a Rooney hater; i dont doubt how much of a good player he is, and englands chances do depend on him playing well im sure. i just think we should give him more time to develop before we start saying how he is the best player ever etc, im not doubting he can become that but let it happen before we start talking about it. As for Gerrard, yes he has had an average season, but i think he got more votes due to the CL last season; he was voted by his fellow pro's so he must have done something right i guess.

Pressure has been on him all of this season, with his temper, where is it now? He's directed his energy on playing football. The pressure on his shoulders at the minute is unbelievable and mark my words he already 'is' the fall guy for when England go out of the World Cup this summer. Ferguson who in the past has nurtured his younger players by resting them and choosing games has played him this season more than he's played in any other season before. On top of that he's expected to win us games. Hats off to the boy, I couldn't live up to that expectation and pressure week in and week out. :)

Henry was busy being top goal scorer in the team that won the World Cup :p He was also also playing for Monaco and had won Ligue 1

We are talking about Player of the Year not best player ever. In my eyes and many other peoples eyes Rooney has been player of the season. I agree with you that he'll need time to develop and he will. But using his age as a reason to not award him POTY is silly.

Edit: I don't think you're a Rooney hater. :)
