Playstation 4 being announced February 20th?

the ps3 couldnt have been anything further away from a pc if it tried.

a brand new non x86 cpu, unified memory, br drive (when they didnt exist anywhere else on release) none of which had yet appeared in a pc. Cell processor and unified memory still dont

I wasn't talking about the specs, I was talking about people saying 'i can already do that on my PC' 'I've been able to do that for years' etc etc

I think Valve are going to be a serious competitor to MS and Sony with this steam box they are going to bring out. PC base is huge, if they can get half the people to go for a steam box.....

im not sold on the steam box thing as i already have one, my pc. but if the ps4 can use steam linux that could be interesting as an extra thing it can do.

but again untill sony release the full specs we wont know, but if it is linux based i wouldnt be surprised if valve get it on there at some point.

Watched it. Was mildly interesting for two hours but nothing mind blowing.

Two hours on Ni No Kuni would have been more interesting....

Are we all really going to have this same dance over and over? About the differences between developing for a fixed hardware system with a small os overhead, vs developing for pc?

also what are the specs, outside of the 8gig of gddr5 and a bluray drive we dont officialy know whats going to be in the ps4, sure we have guesses but we dont know the full specs so a lot of the "it cant do this, that or the other" is just guess work.

I can't see that being the case myself.

If AMD could release an APU more powerful then a CPU and GPU solus, they would have launched it.

That's a high end gaming PC you can buy today in the shops. The PS4 version wont look that good as the AMD APU isn't that powerful.

I'm thinking that they are using a discreet GPU and an AMD APU. Using some proprietary engine that behaves like Lucid Virtu MVP that utilises both.

as i said nearly two years ago october realse for ps4 for new bf game

xbox will be for november for new cod game

the specs are higher than most think. it has to be as they need to last minimum 5-8 years. some people are gunna be like wtf thats faster than my gaming pc :D

So whos gonna preorder one? Im gonna wait until i know what i get with the preorder and see what the difference between the standard ps4 and the premium. As long as they get a descent size hard drive unlike the early ps3 ill be getting one as soon as possible.

Possible, bit like the hybrid crossfire stuff AMD used to harp on about? where the onboard (shoddy) GPU works on tandem with a budget solus GPU to, in theory, boost FPS to high end GPU levels .. although it never really worked so good :(

Depends on Microsofts offering, and price. Ill be buying the best value for money (getting Married this year .. console falls last on list of priorities) and since Sony's first party titles (of the PS3 era anyway) don't interest me at all its really up in the air for me at the moment.

If both the PS4 and Steambox use x86 it's not a huge stretch of the imagination that it would be easier to port to the steam box. If it is that would be a big plus for the steambox.

by the way; can someone tell me here.... what hell is a 'super charged' processor?!?!?!?

and more importantly; why aren't OcUK selling them ;)

I'm all for it and it's impressed me so far, mainly as it will push pc gaming to the next level.

Now, do I spend money on PS4/Xbox or a second 7970 for crossfire...

Was an interesting conference overall. I wasn't expecting as much information as Sony gave us to be honest, so I'm finding it difficult to understand why everyone is so annoyed that they never showed the plastic case, even though we now know pretty much everything else. Like what it does, what we can expect, the basics of how it works and what they want it to do etc. Surely the plastic case is just pure cosmetics and we can wait?

This conference was obviously rushed. They must have seen a window of opportunity in regard to the competition and went for it. It's common sense that they'll hold off all information when all eyes will be on E3 and they'll be needing to dazzle.

Personally I'm pleased overall with the direction Sony have taken the PS4. Loving the fact that developers all seem pleased with it and that it was built with games in mind. I had doubts beforehand and part of me was expecting a WiiU-esque change of direction for Playstation. So it can only be a good thing for gaming, and especially for gaming on PC as the general consensus seems to be that porting will now be incredibly more easy (No more RDR console only?)

I pre-ordered with game as £20 isn't much to guarantee a launch day unit :) Looking forward to see whatever Microsoft puts out.
