Playstation 4 being announced February 20th?

I think MS and Sony will know what each other is up too really, far too many cross platform developers to keep anything really secret when it comes to new console specs etc.

Nothings secret anymore, so many third party companies required in the building process of a machine its inevitable really. Just look at the smartphone world - everything leaked well ahead of any official announcements.

Really impressed with Sony, seems they are listening to the fans and learned from their mistakes. Eveything I hoped they would say, they did.

The PS4 is going to be a beast, some if the features are amazing.

Kill zone looked spectacular, and given its a launch day or early development title, Its assuring given when devs get to grips with the hardware we can expect 2X the graphic capabilities.

Microsoft will have to step their game up, and given the huge drive into Kinect, not looking good for gamers.

And 8GB GDDR5 holy ****

Does anyone else think the release of GTAV on current gen in september and then the PS4 in Nov/Dec with no backwards compatibility might hurt sales a bit. Unless they are planning a PS4 version but that would mean buying it twice ?

Its basically PC hardware, I dont think we will see much of an improvement as the generation progresses, there's not really any secrets to learn.

So whos gonna preorder one? Im gonna wait until i know what i get with the preorder and see what the difference between the standard ps4 and the premium. As long as they get a descent size hard drive unlike the early ps3 ill be getting one as soon as possible.

There will only be 1 version at launch, it will be a premium version which is very expensive to manufacture, later on other versions will arrive that are cheaper to manufacture but they most likely will not have as many slots or add-ons as the launch console to make launch console buyers think they got a good deal.

I have owned every console by sony bar the vita on launch day (ps1, ps2, ps3 and psp) and I will not be buying this one at launch because of the following.

1. It will be hugely overpriced due to only being available in crappy bundles with stuff you do not want or need, meaning you end up paying £600 for a £450 console.
2. It will most likely have design faults which will be fixed by later revisions.
3. Only a handful of games that I actually want will be released in the first year.

I'll save myself £200 by waiting a year and buy the xbox 720 for essentially "free"

i wouldnt be surprised to see GTAV as a launch title for the ps4. if not shipped early next year.

Show me a single console that hasn't progressively gotten better as the years went on? With possibly the exception of the Gamecube and that's only because Rogue Leader looked amazing for a launch game and IMO wasn't bettered on that system.

Not saying there wont be improvements, just dont expect it so be as big as previous generations.

You missed my point completely.

I was dead impressed last night. I mean yeah some of the sharing stuff I won't be bothered in but the way the console handles new games that fact it will be easier to programme for and the specs holds huge promise for me. I will definitely be buying one regardless of price.

The best part of the announcement is....they are marketing it as a gaming machine rather than a multimedia machine!

To everyone complaining about the lack of unveil of the actual design, who really cares? It will be announced at E3 probably! Sony still have 3(?) more trade shows to go this year before the actual release date of PS4, they were NEVER going to unveil all their cards last night - that would have been idiotic.

The launch and possibly 2nd set of games after launch probably won't have been written with 8GB of RAM in mind since it sounds like a late addition, you're saying there won't be any improvement by having double the RAM the console was originally intended to have? Texture resolution will be able to be increased by a lot, that will give a massive visual improvement.

Hopefully they show something like GT6 at E3.

Why do people keep complaining about not seeing it? Who really cares what it looks like?

Lol

There will be, pretty much guaranteed on that. There will be massive improvements down the line, no different to the stuff you saw frkm early ps3 games to late ones.

No, im saying there wont be much improvement in quality as the generation progresses, relative to the difference in launch to late in the previous generation, because all the developers are instantly much more familiar with the architecture at their disposal.

And you have what to base this opinion upon?
Previous generations used all sorts of odd combinations and engines, not so this generation.
Ive already explained why there was huge improvements in PS3 quality from launch to recently - who had seen CELL before? who had programmed for it before? no one. Who within these companies has utilised x86/64 architecture and PC like hardware before? all of them. The headroom is much lower this time around.
