Playstation 4 being announced February 20th?

Well it isn't exactly going to look like that, is it? It'll be roughly the same size as the PS3/360 and any other console.

People like to see what things look like, putting 'a face to a name' if you like.

In addition many people, myself included, spend quite a bit of cash to have good looking and performing AV hardware in the livingroom, i don't want some ugly box on my AV rack.

Ok I agree on the first but are you joking on the second?? Infamous is far, far better than Prototype.

Totally agree. The Infamous games were great fun.

I personally like what i've seen so far. Games look good, controller looks good(actually the new controller looks awesome!),looks like they've learnt their lesson with regards to downloading anything on the PS3.
I also like that they actually showed off quite a few games. That's what I buy console for. No doubt we'll get to see even more game as E3. And hopefully then we'll get to see the actual unit plus get details on pricing and release date(s).

MS really need to step their game up now. If they continue with their obsession with Kinect and all that other rubbish that isn't gaming then i'll be getting a PS4.

The PS4 won't block used games http://www.computerandvideogames.com/392616/ps4-will-not-block-pre-owned-sony-exec-confirms/ or require always on internet connection http://www.computerandvideogames.com/392715/ps4-will-not-demand-always-online-connection/

From this angle the new controller looks very nice indeed!

It's unified memory.

I love how Sony put on a show and all the haters start crawling out of the woodwork saying "there's no way that was done on the console" etc etc

None of it was done on a console though :p

And there was hardly any in-game footage.

And..... breathe..........

Just think. Stop and just think for a moment. Look at the exclusives on PS3 like Uncharted, Resistance and Killzone. Don't those games look good to you? They do to me. And that's with only 512MB RAM. The PS4 is going to have 16x more memory. The stuff is going to look amazing. You don't judge a console on its launch window games when devs are still finding their feet. Give it 2-3 years and your tongues will be on the floor once again.

@Pseudo The AUX port will be for the PS Eye sensor whatdoyoumcalltits.

No, im saying there wont be much improvement in quality as the generation progresses, relative to the difference in launch to late in the previous generation, because all the developers are instantly much more familiar with the architecture at their disposal.

And you have what to base this opinion upon?
Previous generations used all sorts of odd combinations and engines, not so this generation.
Ive already explained why there was huge improvements in PS3 quality from launch to recently - who had seen CELL before? who had programmed for it before? no one. Who within these companies has utilised x86/64 architecture and PC like hardware before? all of them. The headroom is much lower this time around.

Optimisations and improvements come from more than just learning the hardware.

Fair enough but there is still 8 months till release, they probably haven't even got a final design for it yet :p

We'll see it at E3 most likely.

Hopefully they show something like GT6 at E3.

Why do people keep complaining about not seeing it? Who really cares what it looks like?

Because it has to go in the home and will be visible. I really do not want a giant pink glowing boob with a green flashing nipple under my TV.

As the sdk matures, the games will improve. As always. We even saw it happen on 360 this gen, as developers get to grips with sdk and engines improve, so do the the games. So what we are seeing now is the start, I guarantee improvement over lifetime of the console. What do I base that on? Every console and game/sequel prior to this comment, on every system..ever

this

they originally had only intended for 4GB of RAM, im guessing the specs were only finalized weeks maybe day's ago.

now they will work on putting those specs into a motherboard, building a heatsink and cooling system, then building a frame to house it all in.

this could take a few months, so expect to see a final design in 3 months time.

Looks good to me!

Shame the CPU is only Jaguar based but chip TDP would be insane if they used big cores. :D

What graphics library will the PS4 use? Will everyone start moving back to OpenGL now? (esp with Steam on Linux etc)
