Playstation 4 being announced February 20th?

You'll probably be forced (by stores) to buy some awful bundle. When I bought my 360 I had to buy £200 worth of games with it

shop at better stores, or tell them if they dont want your money you'l go elsewhere. as lets be honest if its £350 for the ps4 alone with a couple of games and a extra pad you'l be nudging £500, trust me if you walk in to game, currys or anywhere else and say you want to spend £500 atm they will sell you what you want without a silly bundle. if they want to sell a bundle of crap walk away.

as for the prices on websites its all guess work and place holders, sonys already said games will be no more than $60. so £70 is just a very silly place holder or stores trying to rip people off.

as for pre ordering id hang on till E3 hits and we find out wtf is actually going on as far as release dates and prices. as im still expecting us not to see them on sale here before march next year.

I wonder what the demand will be like for this come launch time, you know..will many people miss out on this for release because they didn't pre-order early enough? I have no idea what to expect so I pre-ordered a bunch of stuff from Shopto the night of the conference just incase, hopefully they do some decent bundles this time around.

I still think there will be 2 SKU's, one £299.99-£349.99 and one £399.99-£449.99. Sony will surely want to avoid launching at over £400 again, it certainly put me off the PS3.

Can't imagine games will break £50 either, £39.99-£49.99 surely. More than anything I hope they do a worldwide launch like Microsoft did with the 360, the internet makes it far too agonizing and tempting when something launches a good 3-6 months early in Japan!

Sony is aiming for a ceiling price of $60 for headline PS4 releases, but will also allow developers to charge as little as $0.99, according to SCEA president and CEO Jack Tretton.

Speaking to CNBC, Tretton said: “People are willing to pay if they see the value there and I think there’s more choice than ever before for consumers. We’re going to welcome free-to-play models, games from $0.99 up to those $60 games.”

!

A lot of industry analysts have pointed out how slow the uptake was on the PS3 (apart from the initial bunch of die hard gamers who bought on launch week) and said they were likely to launch lower this time to get more ground on the Xbox.

But if the Xbox launches at £400 as well .....

We'll just have to wait and see as i suspect Sony is probably doing which is why they haven't announced prices.

any of the main franchises wont be exclusive's as its too much of a risk for them to lock it to one system, maybe a time delay but again i cant see that happening.

if anything it will be either a new game with a time delay on multiplatform release or dlc related.

edit. save making a new post.

Next-gen consoles ‘eight to ten times’ more powerful, games to cost $69, says EA

nice to see EA looking at there bank balance before they even announce any games. even after sony claim no more than $60.

surely sony can only dictate the prices of items released on the network itself? so i think the whole $0.99 to $60 is for psn games only not physical copies.

for example what if they were to release a game which needed a specific controller to work, a la guitar hero, or that one that had a RRP of £200 and came with a huge controller, some sort of robot game it was iirc, or games like eye of judgement, etc.

therefore they would need to sell at a loss which would make no sense in making the game in the first place.

that's why it is as low as $0.99 it is for psn store only imo, and that would be for a game like angry birds.

although i do not see games being as high as £70, but £50 is the norm for a launch. everything is usually overpriced bar the console. that's how retailers make their money.

i see it being £400, sony will still be making a loss per console (which is the norm for them) and if it is cheaper, then great, but imo £400 is fair for what you get.

funny thing is you see people spending £400 on the console to play it on a cheap tv, imo to get the best experience you need to be using a decent set. you don't see people spending £300+ on a cowon to play it through crap headphones.

im guessing the $60 headline price is aimed for new releases so £50 would be about on the same line.

and true about the tv, il have to get a 1080p panel sorted out for a ps4 especially with the age of my current one.

i just remember back when the ps2 was launched and a guy was playing it on a 14" portable crt, i was like really? you could barely see anything.

imo the best deal is the 50" GT50B from John Lewis (free 5 year guarantee) price matched to any physical store for £900. this is a top of the range plasma which is soon to be taken over by a new generation. it had an RRP of £1600 upon release.

http://www.avforums.com/reviews/Pan...-50-Inch-Full-HD-3D-Plasma-TV_287/Review.html

that review does not have the correct price they were just guessing. they were available for £1400 in JL 8 months ago. the price should go down to £800 when the new sets hit the stores, but you will need to be quick when they do, these will sell out.

if you cannot afford £800-£900 then the 50" UT50B is your next best bet which is £568 at tesco, but john lewis will price match that and throw in a free 5 year guarantee. those 2 tv's imo are the only ones buying, but the UT50 does not have a screen filter, so is highly reflective, you need to be able to control the lighting in the room or make sure the lighting/sun is behind the tv or not directly hitting it in any way.

they reckon most people can only notice the difference between 720P and 1080P when the screen sizes are greater than 42", therefore for a 1080P set you ideally want around 50" to get the most out of it.

yeah im on a 42" now so il be looking at a 46" or larger, if i can fit it where my current screen is, and also afford it. still not working.

thing is i wont be spending cash before the ps4 hits as its pointless for now, unless my current screen dies totaly, currently get a patch of funny shading on one side every once in a while. nothing too bad normally goes after a few mins.

if your on 42" and it is a decent set i would just stick with it, i have a 42" PZ85B in my bedroom which again is a top of the range panasonic plasma but now about 5 generations old. still a great set was around £1500 upon release, i got it 2 years old for £380 second hand.

so you could go second hand, the members market and av forums are the best places to look as members on here and over there tend to have decent sets, rather than the cheap ones you tend to find on gumtree.

yeah, its only a 720P panel and has issues with blacks and thats before you add in the funny shadding issue.

and it is getting on a bit, its at least 7 years old (if not more cant remember now when i got it).
