You do know that the 360, PS3 and Wii are consoles of the seventh overall generation though right? Consoles didn't begin when Microsoft released the original Xbox, is that difficult to understand? :confused:

I also think that MS may not be the first to announce but I think they will be the first to release. If the rumours of the PS4 not hitting Europe until 2014 are correct then that will give MS a big advantage if they can get their's out this year ie for Christmas, I think they will.

There was a few reports a while ago about production problems with the new Xbox but no similar reports for the PS, that could be becuase MS are already that far ahead.

I doubt they'll have the apple, it's available tomorrow thing but remember the Xbox Slim release which took everyone by surprise at E3. I'm hoping they'll get an October release in Jap/US and November for Europe if they can't do a worldwide release.

How do you lump with Wii in with 360 and PS3? it was a overclocked gamecube LOL, Wii u is in with 360 and PS3 as its a machine of similar spec.

This is somewhat weird though - why shouldn't Sony be out the door first? They've all the channels in place to build and distribute the PS4. It's MS who aren't hardware oriented and could be seen at a disadvantage with logistics. The PS3 was probably only late to the party because of Cell yields and Blu-ray diodes (and possibly the GPU fiasco with nVidia). None of which applies this time as it was all new tech.

The specs don't matter, that's the entire point. I'd suggest you do some research at least before you start "LOL"ing at people. :rolleyes:

Because it went from Xbox -> Xbox 360, PS2 -> PS3, Gamecube -> Wii which makes up the current generation of video consoles. The Wii U isn't a reiteration or redesign but the first of the next generation of consoles. Again, I could be wrong but that's the way I've always understood generations

On the basis that the GameCube was part of the sixth generation, the Wii was it's successor and therefore a seventh generation console, and the Wii U is the successor of that, thus it is the first console of the eighth generation, I'm still not understanding how you cannot grasp this.

It's certainly the next gen for Nintendo, claiming it's the next gen of home console gaming is stretching things, the Wii was a redesigned Gamecube.

I don't consider Wii part of of the 360/PS3 gen, the Wii U I will consider. If you don't like that then tough really and it does not make what wiki tells you right. I have a bit more common sense

Nintendo have gone half gen essentially, Wii being Gamecube.5 and Wii U appearing to be Xbox/PS3.5. Comaprisons aren't really worth it, they're aiming at a completely different demographic now.

I have a Wii U it's not a next gen console.

I have never figured out how you actually measure what is next gen.

Is there a specific mhz number the CPU or GPU it has to hit?

Is it a measure of speed against other consoles on the market?

Is it possible to have in your hand a "next gen" console because by definition, the one in your hand would technically be "current", not "next". The next one isn't out yet.

I like to say "the latest" console from X.

"Next gen" makes no sense since in theory the X-box 360 is still "next gen" as the NEXT one isn't out yet, it came out in 2005. How long can you call the X-box Next Gen before it becomes "last gen"? If the new one comes out and it is call Next Gen and the X-box 360 becomes last gen then what on earth is the current generation? The only variable is the time between the one you have now and the next one is out. Whether it is 7 years or 7 days, that shouldn't change the status of the console, it is the current one.

Anyway, enough of my rambling.
