Playstation 4 being announced February 20th?

I really hope it's not a 2014 release in the UK, there's no way I'll be able to resist buying a US version if that releases in 2013.

id wait for the official uk release as if the current generation is anything to go by then i can see a fair few failing.
 
Sony would be stupid to release in the west in 2014, MS will easily launch their system to the west in 2013 no doubt about it, Japan is nothing to them especially when compared to Sony.
its going to be an interesting battle and a lot im sure will ride on release day exclusives more so than the hardware under the hood.

They should just do what Apple have done with their Game Centre, where you can just remove achievements for specific games. Just don't let your kids near it if you value your trophies though :D
 
I'm looking forward to the PS4 purely because competition is good and I want the next Xbox to be fantastic!

Given Sony's track record though, I wouldn't expect to see a PS4 here until next year. Though again if they do that they give Microsoft a massive advantage.

It wouldn't bother me if we didn't get it til next year. It will leave a bit of time for some decent games to come out.

Same here! That would seriously make me consider getting one. That plus all the other PS exclusives.

how do they give ms a huge advantage ?

if they go the way most people expect its going to be japan and north america for christmas and eu probably sometime between april and september next year.

ms haven't officially announced the specs yet so unless they are on the same time table as sony are i cant see ms getting the jump, and if they do rush it we could be in for yet more RROD shenanigans again and i cant see ms wanting to repeat that again.

E3 is june 11-13 so this is when ms is liable to announce the 720 officialy unless they react and try to drop it early so will have to do their own press conference like sony are doing.

now all of this is just guess work as for all we know the 20th could just be a new online service or something other than a ps4 expo.
 
I doubt Sony can afford to release the PS4 next year with Xbox predicted to be September this year, it will only give MS the chance to race ahead like they did last time.

I am Looking forward to the PS4 but the specs mean nothing as they are custom made for gaming they perform in a completley different way to a PC, these companies arent dumb enough to build a console thats not gonna withhold the power to last at least 8-10 years in the future with graphics. If it can run games at anywhere near the quality of my new rig i'd be happy, sony know how to make a gaming console but with that said i never play my ps3 and i know like most of my mates ill probably prefer the new xbox they are just better in this department !!
 
If Sony first parties can get games that look like this out of a PS3, we have nothing to worry about concerning PS4 considering it will be a lot easier to program for with it having a more normal architecture.

Microsoft released to the UK and EU on a very agressive timescale, getting the console into the hands of as many people as possible.

I would put money on the next Xbox being released this year to the US and EU (but maybe not Japan) so if I want my next gen fix for Christmas, the next Xbox might be my only choice.
 
like i said a lot of the info is best guesses by everyone. so i wouldnt bet on anything just yet. untill we see what sonys got on the 20th and also what hits at E3 in june we really wont have any sort of a clue.

i wouldnt be surprised if they both ship within days of each other worldwide with the ps4 hitting japan a few months early. but then again who knows.

Which wouldn't be a problem this time. So a worldwide release is entirely possible.
 
2014 release will be perfect for me, won't be buying any new console this year as both Sony and MS had problems with ps3 and xbox360 so i will be holding back to see what pans out this time. Also still plenty of games out this year to play still!
