Plusnet Discussion Thread

Just bought a ASUS RT-N66U in preparation of my fibre install on Friday! Is there anything I should do with the settings apart from put my plusnet login in?

Cheers

What is the router plusnet send out like, Any good? Our plusnet should go live on the 4th of august all being well :D But we haven't got the router sent out yet!

I don't remember doing anything special to mine, just a standard PPPoE connection. The first router I plugged in after the install was the official Plusnet one on the basis that if there was a problem and I had to ring them up they would be dealing with known hardware on the connection - once everything was definitely as expected I connected the Asus.

Switched over from Sky this morning - 74/19 on a quick speed test :) and static IP simple to add.

One thing I'm confused about however - I have a BT person coming between 1 and 6pm today. As everything is working do I need the visit?!

No you don't, ring and cancel it as you'll be doing the technician a favour by not wasting his time.

When I changed from Sky to BT an open reach technician was booked automatically even though I knew I didn't need one, anyhow I simply plugged my router in on the day of the swap and everything worked fine so I rang BT and cancelled the appointment.

Rang plus net, bloke was a bit confused that a switch from sky just worked without issue - too late to cancel BT person but assured no charge.

Did you have fibre with sky and have a separate fibre modem along with the fibre faceplate on the master socket?

If the answer to all that is yes, then it's likely that plusnet didn't know as the person from BTOR (or from a company that is contracted to do work for BTOR) has to leave a fibre modem since the router supplied by plusnet doesn't include a fibre modem (older sky fibre installs would require a fibre modem since the older routers and sky hubs don't have it included).

Yes, separate modem and router (the original sky router still in its box only used to get the username/password).

Only had sky fibre 14 months so must have just missed getting their combined box (phew!)

8 months ago they sent me this. It's a basic no-frills router, but it was stable and would be fine for 99% of homes.

I did change it for a Draytek but only as I needed extra features only the Drayteks have.

Thank you ;) I had a google around and it seems like lots of people have that same router! Plusnet are sending ours out over the next couple of days so we shall see.

I've not had any problems with any ISP router so I can't see any problems with this really but I can always change it I suppose :D

You would have missed it by a lot longer as I'm guessing that you either have the old sagem router (which could be used for fibre in the same way the plusnet supplied router does) or the original sky hub (only the new sky hub which has been available for a few (I don't know how long a few is) months has the fibre modem included).

I am liking this :)

A 12 gig download took 20mins , very very impressed!

It was a white thing that stood upright rather than flat I think.

Just received our router yesterday and it is indeed the same as in your link (Technicolour TG582n)

One of the reasons I asked is because I really can't stand the ISP firmwares :( So once we are up and running I will hopefully be flashing it to a none ISP firmware :p

It normally unlocks extra settings and features not normally available to plug and play users. But we shall see :D

Let us know how you get on.

Couldn't get the Samsung router to play nice so got the Plusnet router ordered to get things up and running.

Internet now works but only getting 40/20 speeds. Have opened a case with Plusnet and they are investigating.

That's a shame.
