Line attenuation (dB) 0 0
Output power (dBmV) 12.8 5

Line rate (kbit/s) 79987 20000
CRC errors 0 0
FEC errors 19 0

These look superb. No CRC error on the line. Plenty of room for any future crosstalk with your noise margin of 13.9dB. Excellent line. Your is much similiar to my line too.

Is that your line?

What cab brand are you on?

Had my Infinity 2 installed today. Not unlocked the HH5, but would be interested to see what you make of these stats:

Data rate: 7578 / 54033
Maximum data rate: 7902 / 51903
Noise margin: 6.2 / 5.3
Line attenuation: 0.0 / 23.1
Signal attenuation: 0.0 / 20.9

I was estimated speeds of 76Mbps but actually getting around 50Mbps.

I'm approx 450m from the fibre cabinet, so just wondering if my stats and download speeds are as a result of that.

I would say your line is running about as good as it can and may drop a little, is the cab new or been installed a while?

I've no idea to be honest.

I only really became aware of FTTC cabinets in December 2013 when I was looking to move away from Virgin, so I never paid attention to them before.

I'm hoping its been there for a while and already has a lot of subscribed users, so things won't get worse from here on.

If my current speeds are due to my stats and distance from the FTTC cab then I'll just have to accept it.

It's still a nice boost from 30Mbps from Virgin (even though I was due to receive free boost to 50Mbps at some point this year). Also, network activity seems to feel smoother and more responsive (e.g. accessing You Tube through Samsung Smart TV was painfully slow. It's very quick now). Bonus is that TV, phone and Broadband services/TV channels we want is cheaper with BT. Standard ADSL was out of the question as I'm 2.7Km from my local exchange.

I'd be inclined to drop to the Infinity 1 (unlimited) and save £3 per month and have max speed limited to 40Mbps, as I don't think the 10Mbps increase warrants the increased cost.

More annoyed by the BT Infinity checker at point of order setting a false expectation. If they quoted up to 50Mbps, I would have gone for the lower package.

Checked the BT Wholesale FTTC availability checker using my address:

Below is for downstream:

FTTC Range A (Clean)
high/low Mbps - 77/59

FTTC Range B (Impacted)
high/low Mbps - 66/38

So I fall nicely within the impacted range.

Interestingly, if I go on the Infinity website now and do a check, I'm seeing the following downstream estimates:

59Mb-77Mb (only said up to 78 when i ordered at the start of the year)

Sticking in my telephone number gives me:

56Mb-74Mb

Nice range of estimated speeds there....

I believe it was an Openreach engineer.

BT line come into front of house straight into master socket. Master socket then has a cable running to a second socket to the upstairs rear bedroom, where the ADT alarm control panel was connected to.

I say was, as when we moved into the property a year ago, ADT ran an extension cable from the Virgin Media socket to this second BT socket. The ADT control panel and this extension do not plug into the socket at the front. All wires go into the rear of the BT socket (sorry, I'm not technical with all this!)

Fast forward to installation day.

My desired location for Home Hub was in another room, so he installed a "data point" in the requested location. This was just a box on the skirting board allowing the HH to connect via RJ11.

To get round the ADT alarm connectivity, he simply cut the extension lead linking the Virgin socket to 2nd rear BT socket(that ADT panel is connected to) and installed a T junction box and terminated in to the master socket. This was done near the master socket itself. The second BT socket is working (plugged a phone into it to test).

Apologies for the waffle!
