Aha, thanks. Woah how do you know I'm being routed through Sheffield? :p

You're probably correct though. Typical of BT - I remember around April 2011 our Modem restarted and before that we had a 13ms ping to the bRAS and a 14ms ping to the internet. After we ended up with a 13ms ping to the bRAS and around a 21ms ping to the internet - No idea what they did. It only got lower to the bRAS with ADSL2+ because it was on the new WBC network.

No idea why they'd route us up there anyway - Seems very inefficient.

I'm aware of that but I didn't post the results from a Tracert :p. Unless of course it was from my old post.

As for the HG612, it's installed and up and running with the bcm96368MVWG_fs_kernel_HG612V100R001C01B030SP06_unlockedgui-nobtagent firmware!

How's that looking? Any worries?

Day three on Infinity:

It started off on Weds afternoon at around the 45-50MB mark, last night it was slightly better at 63MB and finally this today - it did just peak to the 70MB mark but at the very end it dropped to 69MB again. So far, so good :)

Edit - changed the server to Manchester:

6. Data rate: 20000 / 76917
7. Maximum data rate: 25540 / 76277
8. Noise margin: 9.5 / 6.5
9. Line attenuation: 0.0 / 13.8
10. Signal attenuation: 0.0 / 13.8

Thats interesting, so the DGND3700v1 can be flashed to work with VDSL?

I spose anything with a BCM6368 chipset in it can be made to work with VDSL.

Can someone answer a n00b question?

I am on an ECI cabinet but currently use a HG612 modem (unlocked). I've got a few line errors due to a longish line, so thought I'd buy an ECI modem to try and reduce the errors a bit. I've read that matching modem and cabinet is beneficial

My question.. I use a LAN address range of 10.0.0.x on my home network, however I've read the ECI is locked down. Would I be able to "plug and play" the ECI modem using my RT-N66U as the wireless access point, without configuring the LAN IP of the ECI?

I don't care about monitoring line stats, but if I can get away with purchasing a locked version of the ECI modem and plugging it in without arsing around with subnets/stuff I don't understand, it'll save me £30.

Thanks :)

The modem is WAN side of your router so your internal subnet is irrelevant. Plug it in and it'll work.

If the Asus is your only router then it should obviously be configured as a router rather than an access point.

FWIW my cabinet is Huawei. I have Huawei and ECI modems, and there was no detectable difference between the two.

Yes, the Asus router is configured as a router (as it is now). From my brief reading I think the ECI cabinets are more sensitive to which modems are used, than the Huawei ones. We will see.

Thanks for the quick reply :)

Hi all,

FTTC is finally coming to my area.

I am about ~750m to the cabinet going by the road distance, which matches the route my line takes pretty well.

I'd say my line quality on ADSL2+ is way above average for the line quality around here - it's been re-done a couple of times - so what speeds do you think I should get on FTTC?
