Ramadan 2020

Thanks. The sweet thing is called jalebi/zlebia or zlabia, don't think I have tried it before. Haha don't worry, come 3am I am sure my appetite will resurface.

I'm onto the jalebi so thanks for that. There'll be a North Wales version appearing very soon. :)

Jalebi are pretty much pure sugar dripping in sticky sugar... delicious :D

You had some at my sons birthday haha
Ahhhh thought they reminded me of Indian sweets. Though to be fair (why I don't remember), I was distracted by Michael Jackson vs DJ..................

Are they a bit like churros?
Nah not really, imagine a soft chewy caramel straw filled with sticky gooey caramel on the inside and covered in it on the outside - now the flavour isn't exactly caramel but it's made pretty much the same, pure sugar haha

No idea on the origin but we definitely have a punjabi version :)

Blimey. No more - that kind of talk isn't appropriate for a religious thread. :p

No disrespect but every year when I hear that word Ramadan, it always brings back memories of the time at work when we had contractors in, they were all Muslim it turned out. As soon as it got dark they all took themselves off to our staff room for bait. That was all fine by us, no problem with that. What was the problem was their lack of respect for our facilities. Instead of sitting on the chairs around the tables like normal, they pushed all the tables out the way and put all the chairs in the middle of the floor and covered them in food, while sitting around on the floor eating with their hands.

Once they were finished they went back to work to finish off before leaving. They left all the mess for our staff to clear up the next day. I also heard they left the toilet in a right state too but I never saw that so can't comment.

You know when I was at college I went out clubbing at Christmas time and I found Santa passed out on a bench, he woke up and reacted very aggressively to my posing for a picture, he wasn't jolly in the slightest.

There is clear bias towards the rest of workforce’s during this period. I’ve worked in some quite important areas in the last decade in and around London. In this fast period the Muslims always got special treatment. Finishing early, whilst being paid full day, better jobs given and allowing multiple mosque visits during the day. It is not equal treatment. If someone chooses to starve themselves then I don’t see why society has to carry the burden. I don’t believe I should work past 2pm and I should be given every weekend off. But nobody gives a crap. It’s just political correctness favouring a religion and a false sense of entitlement. No care or regard to the rest of society getting on with life. I think your post above echo’s this.

I bet you hate it when people get to leave early on new years eve too, right? And Christmas eve or even Englands world cup games? Winds me up that does, people leaving early and **** to do something important to themselves like getting a tooth extracted or some ****.

One thing for you bro, life is not about working. That's a ******** life if you're a slave to your job.

No mate, try to understand. It’s pretty simple.

When everyone is treated EQUALLY it’s no problem. When it’s this fast, Muslims get weeks of preferential treatment and they expect it too. It’s not other co workers responsibility to cover them.

No, he hates special treatment, everyone benefits from those days.

Mate, I think you need to broaden your scope.

You're referring to equality where during a religious celebration those participating get treated accordingly by their superiors such as during vaisakhi, or lent, or... I dont know any others haha but I do know most management are considerate of all religious festivities and their impact on the workforce.

Perhaps if you could provide an example of where your religious freedoms were a detriment in your workplace then it would prove an example for discussion.

Everyone is treated equally where I work. They all get the option to leave early when the opportunity arises.

And what makes you think that Muslims are not interested in "ENGLANDS" world cup games?

I'd rather be a slave to a job that a ***** ideology. At least I have the option of leaving without fear of death.

Broaden scope. yep ok, what you mean agree with everything they do like labour voters. No thanks.

again, very simple. People finishing before dark at 2-4pm while everyone else non Muslim worked until 8pm or possibly 10pm. We got paid the same too. Rather than stopping their pay. It was fear, and PC. Nothing else. If I asked for a early day because of a dentist appointment or my sons birthday it was a fight to get them to consider it. Most time refused. That’s preferential. Which is not acceptable.

No, I meant apply your criticism to a larger selection of holidays and religions, not simply Ramadan. If a company is lenient with one it leans to them being lenient with all.

I find it hard to comprehend a company which would allow certain workers to leave 4 hours earlier over a number of days and not allow one to leave earlier for an acceptable personal reason.

I remember when I worked in one of the major supermarkets we weren't allowed time off (holidays) during the 2 weeks surrounding Easter and same with Christmas. Yet if you were Muslim the company allowed you time off for religious reasons, feasting, no twilight shifts, etc.

I know if I had asked for Good Friday off or Boxing day to go to Church, I would have either been flat out refused, or I would have to beg for a shift change. In retail Easter and Christmas aren't seen as religious, just money making events.
