RM before 1pm item not delivered

Apologies if I re-hash what I’ve said before but just letting you know you are not alone!
I posted a special delivery item last Tuesday that surprisingly made its way through the departing mail centre here in Northern Ireland - I say surprisingly because the previous 2 I posted took a week to even show up on the system.
Anyhow, the aforementioned item only just today arrived at the inbound mail centre. So it looks as though even special deliveries are taking a week minimum.

As for your eBay issue - I posted an item (an expensive one at that, fortunately I paid for the requisite insurance) on 26th November. Went through the motions with Royal Mail who confirmed it was lost and to file my claim. The buyer has since been refunded so I am currently £950 out of pocket.

There’s a slight further twist though. Despite the item sitting at the “we’ve got it stage” i.e. when I dropped it off at the post office for 3 weeks, it inexplicably turned up at the Heathrow Mail Centre last Thursday where it continues to languish. That’s not even the inbound mail centre for the intended recipient

That's an expensive item. These are under 50 for me.

I can understand buyers annoyance. As seller I'm responsible. These were posted well before last dates. And I've had mail arrive from China by royal mail (last leg) in this time.
I suspect they are "stuck" somewhere.

Which means resolution is unlikely before Christmas.

Meh. Not end of the world. But going to be a lot of unhappy people this Christmas.

At the end of the day, you posted the items with Royal Mail in good faith and (reasonably so) expecting them to turn up well before Christmas. Sadly this hasn't happened, which is why I always hang on to my receipts for about a month.

Sent 3 items special delivery yesterday and none look like they will be delivered today. If not then I'll just claim the cost back.

I have the receipts. I know what's going to happen. Christmas delivery will be missed. And it will be delivered late. Buyer will probably want to return it. EBay may not enforce it as I posted on time.

I'd rather it was properly lost. Then I could just refund the buyer and claim back. But unlikely.

RM are going to be issuing so so many refunds and claims. Reputational damage is going to be significant

Mainland China to clearing customs Heathrow/London - 5944 miles - 7 days ( China Post )

Heathrow to my house - 118 miles - 22 days and still waiting ( Royal Mail )

Hah, that's almost identical to me.

Took a week to get from china to heathrow and from there it's over a month not moved.

There must be an absolute mountain of packages building up.

I’m not sure you can? Aren’t they currently suspending the delivery guarantee even for specials? Maybe I’m wrong but that’s what I was told

Just got my Tracked 38 package that was dispatched on 27th November. It had been held up in the Filton sorting office backlog that was in the news.

They did yeah. Although their own website only stipulated the strikes dates at the start of the month - not the dates last week or this week.
My view on it is thus: They said late claims would not be honoured on the days before, during and after strike action. But given that most of my special delivery items are taking 1-2 weeks there are more than enough “regular business days” to at least make an attempt to meet the special delivery aim. I will definitely be submitting a late claim for each and every item that was late. To be honest it’s more out of hope than expectation but I will fight my corner. Every penny I can screw out of them will be savoured. This is all notwithstanding the £955 camera that they lost - that claim remains outstanding.

Just found out there is no late compensation for tracked 24 and 48!

This is bizarre! There is for 1st and second class (2nd/1st is Not tracked) . But not for "tracked" services.

Used tracked as I thought (didn't check) it was an upgraded 2nd class. Great

I wonder do they mean no compensation for items not delivered within the requisite time i.e. 24 or 48 hours. As I mentioned above, with the strikes and backlog I didn't expect my Special Delivery items to arrive by 1pm the following day. I DID however expect them arrive sooner than a week (longer in some cases). For that reason there must be some level of compensation although I'm sure they'll do their utmost to worm their way out of it.

Tracked is basically just signature on delivery and everything else same, I am not sure why 2nd class hasnt been scrapped yet, are the savings worth it over first class?

Possibly, hopefully. You may be right. I didn't think about that. On product Ts&cs just says no compensation for late.

Maybe there is same fallback to 2nd class or something

If sending 20 or 30 parcels could be 20 or 30 pounds. (I think)

IIs it worth it? I've heard that 2nd and 1st aren't really treated differently anyway. Who knows though.

Just an update. Both parcels started moving Tuesday evening. One is out for delivery today. Other looks like tomorrow. Tomorrow is last day before more strikes so looks like might get there. Just!

Possibly, although I can't see it on the RM website nor was I informed at the time of purchase. So I'll still put claims in and see what happens.

Package posted first class in the Western isles Monday arrived this morning in the midlands, so things definitely moving ok in some areas.

Gave my postie 20 quid today to help him out with the pay dent from striking.
