lol im on same broadband, paying for 8mb but only getting 700kb/s max on downloads lol AND at nights its slow as helll. But free sky plus :D so i dont really care :P.

I asked same question and i got sky to send me out a netgear DG834GT. The sagem router i got was mega slow.

Your router is wireless so you can plug it in anywhere you can get power to it. If you don't want to plug it into the master then there's not a lot more we can help you with - either you want this problem fixed or you don't.

And for the record nobody is paying for 20Mbps or 8Mbps, you're paying for up to those speeds, and receiving them.

Is your pc connected via a wire to the router?
If so, buy a wireless stick and put the router at the master socket.

If you want to see how fast your broadband can be then plug it into the test socket, this should cut off all but the master socket. I think you will be surprised how much your connection will improve if you plug it into the master socket.

Ps, sorry for spellings I'm on my iPod...

Okay, thanks,c ould anyone recommend me a fairly cheap wireless stick please?

hows this? My brother has this one, the exact same one:

I would remove that competitor link if i was you...

Something like this would be fine for the >10meg connections.

Are you the only wireless client on the network?

Is it impossible to run a wire from your parents bedroom to your computer?

No, my little bro's pc has got my connection as well. Thing about his one is that he's got that belkin wireless adaptor installed.

The other problem is, is that next to my parents bed is a bedside table and behind that is the master socket. So would putting the router there like interfere with the connection or something?

Also, if I ran a wire from my bedroom to the parents room, it'd be too messy, me and my mum dont like messy :( Besides the wire isnt long enough :D

Edit: Just bought the wireless adaptor, ill be able to see if my internet improves with my new pc that comes tomorrow :)

Can you plug the modem into the master socket and test it from your brothers PC?

Then you will know what your potential sync speed is.

Also try the router plugged into the test socket (behind the faceplate, bare in mind removing the faceplate 'should' cut off all the other phone ports in the house...)

Hmm guys, my router has an ethernet cable that plugs into the computer as well, are you sure I can use it wirelessly? This is a picture of my router: http://87.86.186.37/Images/product_image1.jpg

Right, this isnt that hard.

This is what your like atm?

Phone line --- Modem Router --- Integrated 4 port switch --- Your Comp

--- Wireless --- Your Brothers computer

If yes, the its simple:

Phone line --- Modem Router --- Integrated 4 port switch --- No computers plugged in.

--- Wireless --- Your Brothers computer
--- Your Computer

What's an integrated 4 port switch? Apart from that, yes, it's just like that.

Oh, also, just realised, my dad uses my sky as well. COmpletely forgot >.<

The 4 port switch is where the cable goes from the router to your computer.

Instead of your computer connecting through a cable it will connect wirelessly like your brothers and i guess your dads?

Oka,y so it's just that simple?

I'll unplug my router from the pc + socket.

Take it to my parents bedroom, plug it into the master socket behind the bedside table, put the ethernet cable in my cupboard.

Plug the wireless adaptor into my pc and do whateer I have to do to activate it on my pc, and thats it?

Yeah, you only need to have the power and telephone cables plugged into a wireless router.

Your computers then connect to the router wirelessly.

Before you move the router, make a note of the WEP/WPA passkey.

It might be written on the bottom of the modem...

You will need that when connecting your computer to the router.

Okay thanks, yup, it's on the back of the router, I actually know it off by heart though since ive needed it somany times D:

Thanks for the help dude!

Ill make a post on this thread again if anything goes wrong tomorrow :D

It should be fine, i would set up the wireless stick and connect to the router wirelessly before moving the modem.

Means you can see your connection instantly :)

When you do it can you print screen your line stats?

Cheers :)
