*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

I didn't read the whole thread but my point was that freeview is rubbish compared to sky lol.

Shock as completely free service isn't quite up to the same standard as a rather expensive subscription one.

I have Sky (as of recently) but only because I got it cheap, and it just seems like snobbery to be bad-mouthing Freeview when you're getting all those channels for free in the first place, especially considering 10 years ago you only had five.

It is being cancelled today or tomorrow after nearly 10 years with sky

No more live sports, will have to use the internet more

yikes! I may join up again if they send an offer letter out I would get sky HD :)

I seriously need to all Sky and see what deals I can get to reduce my bill.

Got 2 HD boxes (inc multiroom)
Full TV package
Unlimited Broadband, phone rental and £5 call package.

Costing my about £110 a month. Need to see if I can get that reduce by threatening to cancel!

Yes, ring to cancel tell them it's too expensive and they should offer you 25% discount for 12 months there and then. Got mine down from £85 to £50-odd quid (cancelled sky movies at same time)

But its not free because you are forced to pay a TV license. You are not allowed to view the "free" channels without paying a TV licence so really they are not free at all. If you could watch all the "free" channels with no TVlicence then it would be freeview... As it is currently it is not free... I don't care if the TV licence is officially for the BBC because you still have to pay it even if you don't watch the BBC.

Kind of a mute point as you have to pay the Tv licence with freeview and Sky.

Yes I also think that if you pay for sky then you should not have to pay a TV licence on top if you do not watch BBC. I wonder how many people with sky actually watch the BBC. If you could get Sky without a TV licence though everyone would just have sky instead because it would be £25 a month for sky instead of £40 for sky+tv licence

Was really thinking of doing the same but could not live without some channels.

I have complete Skyworld HD pack + espn which is costing £60 quid with my 13 quid discount.

Was thinking of turning off skymoives+sports+hd pack but keeping espn then sticking Disney Cinemagic on for the kids keeping espn for football and UFC?

Do I need hd pack for espn hd?

You will need the HD pack, if there is one thing I don't think I'd have sky without its the HD, I was always watching stuff in HD, need it for the F1 (I don't like other sports).

I agree, especially with the number of HD channels there are. As soon as I go to the planner I go straight to the HD-only section, rarely even bother looking at the SD stuff.

I've been without Sky for about 3 years now, haven't missed it at all. I go round my gf's and they have Sky+ HD, yet we often end up going through the planner to find nothing decent on! Waste of money IMO, if it was a lot cheaper I'd have it, but for what it costs I can live without.

If I cancel, do I have 31 days to say I've changed my mind if they don't offer me anything?

I'm trying to sort my dads account out while I'm back home for a few days as hes paying £48 a month for the entertainment and sports packs. No HD or anything like that.

I've phoned up to ask for discount a couple times but both people have told me I can't have any. I'd quite happily cancel it and wait to get a better offer but my dads worried he'll be without his football if I do!

Yes, within the notice period that you've given you can ring up on the very last day if you want to stay with them. I did that once after I blinked first!

My Boss rang up to redo a DD as he missed one. Said can I cancel it and come back in a few months. They told him if he cancels he can not sign back up for 3 years. Thats a joke right.

On another not Im thinking of cancelling, but dont know who to get phone and BB with if I do.

Yes it is, they'll be sending you offers throughout the notice period and beyond to get you back. I've just gone back after 4 months away to a 12 months 50% off offer.
