*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

I had cancelled Sky to switch everything to BT for a considerable reduction in monthly cost (~£70 down to £48) with Sky Atlantic being the only notable loss to me... But BT have royally cocked up, failed to put the order through properly on at least 4 occasions despite it now being with their executive complaints team. I've even wasted 2 days holiday waiting in for engineers who never showed and not had an explanation other than "there's a problem with your account that we're trying to fix".

I called Sky back last week and asked what they can do - ended up with Fibre Unlimited (a downgrade from Infinity 2 but I doubt I'll miss the speed too much), line rental and the Family Bundle for £45/month with a £50 account credit which I don't think is too bad.

Can I get the F1 Hd channel without a Sky sports subscription?

I have Hd and movies ?

It depends on how long you have had the HD subscription ? When F1 was added to the HD channels it was not part of the Sports package, so was included in the HD subscription and still is for those of us that took HD at the time and haven't altered our subscription since. But a while ago Sky changed things for new customers so that to get F1 you had to have the Sports package.

I believe I may have been one of the lucky few with sky after reading some of the horror stories on here. When I was based in the UK I was with them (full HD multi room package) for over 10 years and I always thought that their customer service was exemplary. When I eventually cancelled because I was leaving the country I was 6 months into a 12 month renewal and they wrote off the rest of the contract as a good will gesture.

Virgin and BT.....that's another story and for another thread.

Bit of an odd one this. The account was set up in my dad's name (I didn't have an account at the time that was able to do direct debit)but I was the one who had it. Since then we've cancelled the debit (many many moons ago)and I started paying by card in my name but on the same account. Who would have to speak to sky to cancel? Name of the account holder or the bill payer?

Atm I'm paying something like £64.00 a month on an old white pace box (40 gig hd I believe). Do I have recourse to get anything better than that or would I have to cough up for a new hd box myself?

Thanks

Account holder I believe, but your father can add you to Sky's list of people that came make decisions on the account. I did this so I could allow my wife to make all of the phone calls on my behalf.

Only the account holder can put through a full account cancellation. Password holders can reduce packages and upgrade but are unable to cancel the account in full. Unless we're talking power of attorney.

Thanks.

Does that mean that we'll be able to cancel sky and re sign as a new customer under my name?

Thanks again

That is the case, yes. You may need to do it over the phone though as online sign up will likely dislike the same bank account details. Trust message me and I can supply a 50% off TV code.

Cancelled my Sky sub over the weekend as I decided to save a few quid and go back to Freesat as I've already got the box.

It took me about 10 mins to get through to them but I have to say they were OK to deal with once I got through. Once I explained I wanted to cancel as I didn't make use of anything other than free to air channels they just processed the cancellation without making me any reduced cost offer to stay.

Personally i'm not convinced these 50% are as special as they used to be ... I can get 50% off in a lot of places these days . Hell sky even advertise 50% off offers atm . Smacks of desperation , and it doesn't even cover you for "WHEN" 4k is available.

The 50% off offer people are getting - is that 50% off everything?

Currently paying £83.90

Sky Multiscreen £11.25
Variety £30.00
Sky Fibre Unlimited £20.00
Sky Talk Line Rental £17.40
1571 - Voicemail £1.25
Sky Talk Evenings and Weekends Extra £4.00

No its only off the TV bundle. So you would get Variety bundle at £15 a month instead of £30

Ok so the best I could be looking at is £63.65 if I get rid of voicemail and sky talk (we don't even have a phone so have been over paying for months!)

All my offers ran out, £76.80 per month and its just too expensive as I hardly watch much and the wife only really watched the soaps. They offered to reduce it to £40 per month but it would tie me into a new 12 month contract so I've told them to cancel it all...

Need to look at a freeview recorder and maybe move to plusnet unless they come back with an amazing contract free offer...
