*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

Just emailed them say that I want to cancel my current TV packages.

Due to move house on 29th and the will be staying with a mate who has the whole shebang there. Mrs S not that fussed about not having Sky for the 2 months she will be staying at current place on own, so may as well save some money.

just wondering how long it will be before I get a call from them asking why I want to cancel and what they will offer for me to stay.

don't you have to ring them to cancel?

Just stumbled across this..

I work for Sky(Bet) and there's an offer on at the moment which entitles my friends and family for a year of half price Sky+ HD TV and a year of free broadband. My understanding is that you can cancel it after your first year as well!

All I need from you is an email address so if anyone is interested I will send over some details.

Is this open to friends and family that already have SKY TV/phone and BB?

If so I'm interested.

Sorry, forgot to mention. New customers only. Unsure if this means you can cancel, and then take advantage. Will have a look around in the T&Cs tonight.

Yeah, and there's also better things I could spend it on. I'm well aware of what's on but I have The Wire on DVD and Luther was a BBC thing anyway. I watched a couple of shows on Atlantic but I'm not going to go out and fill my planner up just to justify having the service.

I'm not sure you can say there's nothing worth watching if you're just not willing to watch any of it. :p

Obviously it's all subjective based on whatever you happen to like, but there's plenty of decent, popular stuff being shown. I'm almost never in a position where I don't have at least a few things recorded to watch.

True, there's stuff on there if you plan your viewing and record it. However if you record everything then you don't get to see the trailers for the new stuff so you aren't always aware it exists.

I guess it just wasn't a fit for me, and I didn't feel like I was getting value out of it, which is what I told the Sky guy.

Must be feeling generous tonight. I signed up on a 75% off TV deal this time last year. Called to cancel today and they extended the 75% off deal for 12 months and added on the free broadband you get for Sky Sports so my bill is actually cheaper this year.

£42/month

Entertainment Extra with Sports HD
Sky Broadband Unlimited
Sky Talk (w/ international calls add on)

Well we are £62 for:

Entertainment Extra+
Sports Package
Movies Package
3D and HD Packs
Multi Room x 1
Sky Go Extra

Broadband Unlimited
Talk Unlimited

take off multi room and it would be £52 a month straight away, so £10 more for Extra+ and Movies and Talk Unlimited (which has free calls to 22 different countries anytime as well as mobiles in canada and USA).

i'm on a 50% off offer, so there is no way your on 75% off

The only thing extra you have is Movies, as from what I can gather I have Entertainment Extra+ despite the online thing saying otherwise and as I said, I have Talk Unlimited.

The 75% off doesn't include the HD fee so my TV package is
£10.25 HD
£47.50 TV minus £35.63 discount = £11.87

Total of £22.12 for Entertainment Extra+, Sports and HD plus £19.50 for Talk Unlimited and line rental with free broadband.

So you're paying £10 more than I am just for Movies. Adding them on would cost me £2/month but they're not even worth £2 imo!

Edit: classic Psycho Sonny, wades into the thread, is generally obnoxious, is corrected and never comes back.

Sky rang tonight (we have Sky Fibre), and offered Sky HD for £8.75 a month for a year with free installation :)

I had this, you only get put onto the basic entertainment package with a few HD channels. When I found out I rang them up and spoke to them and was soon put on the Entertainment extra+ for no extra charge.

Just cancelled and was offered just the generic half price fibre for a bit. No thanks Jeff.

So a week and a bit a go I rang up to see what was going on because we got a phone call at home (my Dad answered, I'm not there right now) from a guy at Sky offering half price stuff... But it was only for TV, which was very strange. So I rang up a couple of days after that to find out what was going on and the guy said that it wasn't for everything being cancelled because the phone and broadband was still under contract. Which I didn't think it was but what ever, he suggested that I could arrange a home move. Any way I've been waiting find out a definative date for when my parents move into the new house and arrange something but last night at 10:45PM I got an email saying "confirming your Sky broadband cancellation" ... And that the service will turn off on the 16th... Wut...? And 10 minutes a go at 8AM I got a text from Sky saying...

Your Broadband service will switch to a new provider on 27/08/2013. As you're in contract Sky early cancellation charges apply. To discuss call 08442414141

How and what?! I'll be spending all day on the phone to Sky then. :(
