*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

Right, I cancelled sky, contract ending on 20th April, I've just had an email telling me that they're knocking various minor things off my bill, no new contact, duh, for 12 months, saving me £312 , doesn't give me a total price just tells me the discount,

Did everyone get this or am I a chosen one. Seems a bit weird to me and it is no way tempting.

Yer I only got broadband and Landline keeping same number moving both over. Cheers
You're better off posting in this thread for Openreach FTTx broadband questions:

This thread is for Sky TV.

Hi,

When you cancelled your sky sub, did it take into affect immediately or is there like a month notice you need to give them?

I am moving out of my old rental place in 3 weeks and wanna know if i should cancel a few days before i leave or cancel now(although i still want to use sky until i move out)

What’s the best way to cancel sky? Just phoning them?

30 days notice I think.

I signed up for an 18 month contract around 8 months ago and Sky have increased my subscription for phone/Internet from £25 to £29 which I'm kind of irked about.

Am I able to cancel my contract and go elsewhere without penalty if they increase the price in contract by 16%?

If there is a significant change to your price you should be able to cancel without charge. I received a letter which informed me of the price hike and said I could cancel within 30 days of the letter (iirc).

I moved to Now from Sky which was cheaper even tho it's the same firm. Got an email yesterday informing me of an £8 early termination charge so had to phone them to find out why and received £10 credit.

Sky must be loosing so many customers now due to price rises and they don`t give a monkeys
Hate when you call them on the phone and they say " Thank you for being a loyal customer " means utter ****
Don't blame the agents on the phone, they are just doing their job and they have to say certain things or get the wrath of management. Blame the higher ups for the price rises etc.

Agreed, I know it's a script but it's so annoying when you've had to navigate the awful voice recognition phone system which only wants you to hang up.

Then the first thing they say is thanks for being a VIP customer for x years. Even more annoying when they plug the VIP benefits which are non-existent.

If Sky wanted to thank me they could stop putting my bill up by 10% and trying to flog me Sky mobile.

Thanks for the advice. Moving to NowTV was my plan as well!
Give them a call as the agent on the phone asked if I was within my cooling off period with Now and said he could offer me super fast for £13 a month.

I'm not unfortunately, much as I'm not a Sky fan you can't knock that price. Not sure why he'd mention it if it wasn't a thing.

I signed up in December for 18 months and they're trying to jack the price up, it's so damn annoying, should not be legal. They way they do it though is they have to let you out of the contract, as they're effectively breaking the contract themselves.

I'm waiting for a call back to sort it out. They're relying on the fact that most people don't want the hassle of shopping around and changing.

They all have a clause in the contract for it now, so it isn't breaking contract from their side.

Doesn't mean you can't ring up and complain, but they don't need to concede anything if they don't want to.

As a supposedly "platinum" Sky member I can honestly say I have never seen any benefit from this supposed elevated status.
As I am now considered a pensioner I obviously need to start watching the pennies and as such my cancel period is up in 2 days.
I was (probably stupidly) about to accept renewal at a price retentions had previously offered which was HD UHD full sky sports and Netflix premium for £55 with no annual increase (this year) and no admin fee.
The emails on enabling netflix etc arrived then I was told there was a £30 admin fee!
I was told she could remove £10 of the admin fee to which my reply was don't bother you can cancel the whole package.
For the sake of a £20 admin fee they are going to lose my subscription of £660 a year.
Sound financial management.
