*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

Do people get the 50% off yearly for real?

Or are you BS'ing?

You may want to read back a few pages and look at my posts.

Only people with more money than sense should be paying full price.

I have posted multiple times about how to get the full package for the equivalent of £30-£50 a month (EE+, movies, sports, HD, line rental, top phone package and broadband) every single year and it's full proof. If you don't do what I do and stay a loyal customer those same packages would be £110+ per month so it's works out at less than 50% of the original price (because of quidco cashback).

Surely not, it would show on their system.

I am after one of the new sky HD boxes, looking at the site it's £199 + £60 installation for me.

I already have multiroom and movies and sports so can't get the reduced fee of £50 for taking out multiroom. Anyone know how I can get the box cheaper?

Cheaper buying off gumtree, I bought a Sky+ HD box and a wireless connector off gumtree for £25 altogether.

Sky charge £20 just for the wireless connector iirc.

Then people on here talked about how it has no warranty or insurance (some people pay £5-10 per month on top for insurance). Why would you pay £5-£10 per month insuring something you can buy second hand for £20? If it dies which it hasn't with over 6 months of usage already, I'll simply buy another for £20 but I have my multi room box as a backup anyway.

As for their system do you really think sky employees give a monkeys if your getting a good deal? It's not as if by charging you more they are going to benefit in any way, just going to line Murdochs pockets even more.

I cancelled my fathers for him and resigned up in my mothers name for them with 50% off the full TV package including HD and new boxes for 12 months.

So far since cancelling sky have emailed my dad at the start of every month offering a once in a life time limited time only 50% off deal to get him to come back.

Also I don't understand why people take the box insurance for 5 quid or whatever it is a month. In over 10 years my folks have only ever had 1 failed box. 120 payments of 5 quid easily covers a new box. Also worst case scenerio past the initial 12 month contract you just leave and sign up again with brand new boxes.

Why does it eat away at you? I've never seen somebody so controlling on what they should or should not be doing. You've been going on about this for months. Either that, or you really hate Sky.

I'm telling people how to save money rather than throw it away

Where did I order them to do anything?

I just explained to them the cheapest way of doing things.

Like buying boxes off gumtree rather than buying off sky and saving yourself over £100 easily in the process.

I don't know if anyone is affected or even aware but Sky have just made some changes to some peoples account -

Customers who subscribe to Entertainment Extra Plus along with the Sports and/or Movie channels have been benefiting from watching Sports and Movies in HD since April last year. This was part of a free Sports and movies HD trial, which is now coming to an end.

I left Sky and rejoined at around April last year but at no point did anyone inform me that that there was any such trial and at some future date yet to be decided we'd have to pay extra to watch Sports in HD. That day turned out to be today when I lost my HD Sports channels and Sky wanted an extra £5.50.

A quick Google search shows a lot of people unaware of any such introductory trial and if you call Sky today you're met with a pre-recorded message on the subject and a 20 minute wait as people call in to complain.

A quick call to cancellations sorted it as the staff there didn't know anything about this "trial" either and are offering 20% discounts to those affected and in their words "it's a joke".

TL;DR - Lost your HD Sports of Movies channels? You've been affected by a Sky experiment gone wrong. Call to get them reinstated and ask for a discount.

I got 100% off the last 6 months, it was their deal to keep me after i said no to 50% off - you dont get 50% HD or multiroom, only the tv package usually.

Its just came to an end, so ive cancelled again, if they dont offer me a good deal then ill just let it cancel then sign up with a F&F deal for my girlfriend next month.

I listened to a colleague at work on Friday talking to Sky. They quoted him £109 for his subscription. No idea what that would include these days with Sky.

Long story short, he walked away with the same package for just over £40.

Has anyone else tried to cancel Sky via email recently?

Oh my god, what a nightmare!

Do what I done when I cancelled about 10 years ago, stop your direct debit. You'll get a phone call soon enough, believe me. Pay your last bill and cancel with the person on the phone. They might say that they're not able to do so for blah blah blah reasons. Politely request someone to call you with the ability to do so, only then will you pay your final installment.

I'm paying £65 a month (was £55 2 years ago when I signed up) for broadband, telephone and Sky HD Entertainment Plus. Is this a rip off? I honestly have no idea at the moment with all these deals flying around. I'm tempted to cancel at the end of March as I'll be away for a month, and then get a better deal for rejoining. Can that be done?

Someone with a different name at your address would but you wouldn't.

I pay £74 a month just for the full TV package plus I get two extra devices on sky go which is way too much.

I refused to take out Sky's extra £10 a month for insurance when the warranty ran out which means I get tons of phone calls from Sky and other firms offering me the cover
and telling me scare stories about people having to fork out hundreds in new boxes and call out fee's when it breaks down.

The best way round the warranty rubbish is to remember that your also out of contract after 12 months and if they try to charge you call out fees etc say you will cancel your sub and they can stick it. Trust me they always come out and fix it for free and give you free upgrades all for no charge.

Still its very annoying to have to do that considering how much they charge for a TV services that is full of repeats, If it wasn't for the football I would cancel it in a heartbeat.

You may want to read my posts further back. New customers get the full package, movies, sports, unlimited broadband , HD, talk unlimited and line rental for £45 a month

I tried doing the full bundle through Quidco and just before I hit the finish button, The bundle price comes up at £66.50 and that is for the sports and movies, Complete package and their fibre unlimited broadband, plus talk weekends. As soon as I press finish, It shows a price of £39.40 and when I go to sky website via quidco to complete my order, You then have to add the movies and sports, Plus the fibre unlimited broadband and then totals a cost of upto £91. What Am I doing wrong here?

you want to get a F and F code from the other thread ;)

it gives you 50% off everything (well it used to i think they changed it slightly but it should give you a discount on stuff on top of new customer pricing).

i also didn't pick fibre just normal ADSL unlimited broadband.

So I got movies, sports, HD, multiroom, 3D, line rental, broadband unlimited and talk unlimited for around £55 a month after quidco, take away multi room and it should be around £45 for the same package if you don't want multi room.

i also got like £150+ in cash back through quidco the actual bill is around £65 a month. after cashback it's £55 and if you take away multi room it would be £45.

i think it's an additional £10 per month using F and F code for fibre over unlimited ADSL.

so it would be roughly £55 a month for a 1 room full package setup after quidco using F and F.
