*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

What better/cheaper alternatives can you suggest?

the only one is VM and they I don't think they are cheaper, in fact i'm pretty sure they are more expensive due to offering a much higher speed of broadband.

that is the only true alternative to SKY TV imo because netflix and lovefilm don't do live sports, etc.

if you don't watch live sports then sure you can get away with free to air and netflix or lovefilm.

All comes down to the channels you watch.

If you don't want sports or movies or SKY channels....Then Freesat ? :p

Thats what I did...Never looked back and sky is a long distant memory.

If you want those channels...Then you have to pay.

I just refuse to pay for TV :p

you would have to be a moron to pay for Sky if you only watch free to air channels tbh

Talk talk looks like a good cheap alternative to sky. Shame the sports package is so obscenely expensive, but the basic packages look good.

Sky turned off my package yesterday. Still waiting for my discount come back letter.

you would be better off signing up as a new customer under someone elses name (partner, sibling, parent, child, friend, etc) and using a F and F code and cash back on top.

you also wouldn't of had a loss of service.

so by now waiting your going to end up paying more and being without the service for longer.

How do you get hold of the f and f codes?

it would help if people would spend 30 minutes and read through the thread tbh

every question has already been answered multiple times and all the info you need is already in the thread.

even if you just read back through the last few pages you would have all the info you need in order to save up to £800 a year.

spending 30 minutes to read through the last few pages to save hundreds of pounds every year should be worth it i imagine.

I'm curious… How do people break in Plasma's with Sky HD? I can't think of a channel thats not got logos or black bars.

only movie channels have constant black bars surely?

i simply don't watch the same channel for longer than 1 hour usually (unless it's sports or a movie) and if i do afterwards i watch a different channel or run the scrolling bar for 2-4 hours and let it turn off using auto standby.

varied content is key, you cannot expect not to get IR if you stick to the same channel for hours upon hours.

also there are plenty of channels without constant logos iirc, BBC doesn't have them for example.

i always get IR from sky sports, it's a channel which gets hammered on the weekends.

Got offered HD, sky TV with EE, SS, and movies, as well as unlimited calls (Inc to the us) the phone line and fibre from sky for 85 quid.

Worth it?

not if you can get better by signing up as a new customer through a different name and F and F code and then get £150+ quidco cashback on top.

people always forget that when they offer you these deals you will be getting zero cashback.

imo get a F and F code, sign up as a new customer under your partners, brothers, friends, parents, etc name and go through quidco online.

you should get the same package for £55-65 a month then after cashback

New Sky Box

There is a new Sky Box that is coming later this year that will be able to record three channels like the Virgin TiVo box. I am waiting for that before I tell them I am leaving and hope they give a upgrade.

They will also need to send an engineer out to attach another cable to your box, that costs them a lot of money.

I doubt they would give you any "upgrade" for free. You would most likely need to pay a lot of cash for the box and then even more for an install.

There is? Not sure it's needed with On Demand and the +1 channels.

there is no need to have 3 channels recording at the same time imo, purely because stuff gets repeated so much.

i have most of my recordings set to record at night anyway, e.g. rather than recording when the programme is first aired on say monday night at 9pm, i'll record it on tuesday at 2am.

using the sky+ app on my phone, i can find alternative airings of the show in HD.

so i always try and find an alternative airing that happens during the late hours when i'm asleep, that way during the day i can watch one channel whilst recording another, etc.

imo if you know how to use the system like i do, you don't need any more than 2 tuners imo.

especially when you can also download HD shows on demand as well within a week or two of airing sometimes even up to a month.

e.g. i have true detective and nurse jackie set to record at 1.45am and 2am instead of their peak times airings. walking dead set to record at midnight as well instead of peak time.

there is no need for a 3 tuner box imo.
