*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

there is no need to have 3 channels recording at the same time imo, purely because stuff gets repeated so much.

I have to admit, I rarely have two recordings going at once. Only the occasional time unless something is good on Film4 HD.

What I do find annoying is why they don't keep everything on OnDemand. There's a lot of stuff that seems to vanish after a year or so. Don't they have the space? Plus another thing I've found, what was once on OnDemand/Sky Broadcast has been put onto Pay Per View. Old stuff like 48 Hours, Beverly Hills Cop, Iron Man/2, yadda yadda...

probably to do with licensing, etc.

they can only have stuff on demand for so long, etc before their agreement runs out.

if you set up your recordings like i have then there is absolutely no need for 3 tuners. just set recordings for alternative times which won't clash with anything else.

i also record top gear on monday instead of sunday because sunday is a peak day for watching tv with super sunday, etc.

the only thing i wish was easier was upgrading hard drives, i mean it should be a simple case of opening it up and swapping them out, but it's not as easy as that.

and i don't want to pay the huge difference to get a 2TB box over the £20 i paid for a 500GB box

I called Sky to cancel about 10 days ago and just received a call from them "carrying out a survey" on why people choose to leave.

I was all ready to negotiate as and when he launched into his big reattainment speech but it never happened. I simply said the service was financially impractical and he thanked me for my time and hung up.

Will have to see if anyone else calls or wait for the usual come back letter in a few months.

You will get a call back when they get around to you, they have thousands of people leave on a daily basis I imagine and it probably takes weeks, maybe months for them to get through them all.

You would be better off just signing up as a new customer though either way.

Just noticed my upfront payment of my line rental has expired and my monthly cost has jumped for £50 to £65, I've just rang in to cancel HD and the anytime talk package bringing it down to £47 a month, the only thing I'll miss is the F1 channel, and the talk package isn't used during the day now anyway as my sons now at school so my wife is back to work :) I feel like ditching them altogether tbh as I can get a similar package with talktalk for circa £30 a month

Indeed but I have to give 30 days notice anyway so at least I wont miss that one.... even if it does get turned off there are ways and means :)

I'd miss the HD channels. They're so much clearer than SD!

I escaped sky roughly 18 months ago and I'm still getting random calls trying to entice me back with the latest being 6 months for £14 that's for the movies and sport hd package - downside is the sky boxes I have are totalled so the price wouldn't apply.

WOW nice offer....you could always look to second hand boxes off the bay. Not sure how expensive they are.

you can buy sky boxes off gumtree for £15-£20

i'm talking new amstrad ones too not the old boxes which are obsolete.

ebay and members market are far more expensive.

i got a sky+ hd box and a wireless connector off gumtree for £25 for the 2 of them, new ones off sky would have cost around £200 most likely for the 2 of them I know the wireless connector is like £20 on it's own from sky boxes are usually £150+.

i will be cancelling sky soon as F and F code runs out which is in a few months now, I shall be selling my boxes on ebay - collection or gumtree (cost far too much to post them. so i will likely sell my 2 HD boxes for £40-£60 altogether and the 2 wireless connectors on ebay or gumtree for £10+ each.

i also have a multi room box which i shall try and flog for £5-£10.

so i shall make £65-£100 and i only paid £25 for the stuff (i got 2 boxes and 1 wireless connector for free off sky).

I guess it's worth looking into getting a box as I'm sure they will be on the phone again as I seem to get at least 5 missed calls from sky numbers logged on the phone.

Glad that i got rid of Sky few months back. Waste of money. Don't miss it what so ever.

Need to look at a decent FreeView box for Motors TV now that it's landed on there. Got a cheap a nasty Humax FreeSat box at present, but that needs to be changed.

RE the NowTV aspect, need to look into this as typical of Sky I go to cancel and then find stuff like True Detective on, most of the stuff I watch is on Sky Atlantic.

Problem with nowtv is you don't get all the content from the channels. apparently Hawaii 5-0 had the first 3 episodes available and no more due to contractual obligations around showing content on demand...
