*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

I really want freeview as it had built in nowtv..but I have a strong suspicion my indoor in roof aerial isn't good enough. PS4 will get nowtv I'm sure over the next 18months.

That's one thing I need to sort :( - shame Motors TV isn't on FreeSat.

Picking up my humax 1010s today. Also going to order now tv for 4.99 a month.
Farewell subscription to Murdoch.

What is the normal price of the Now TV subscription? £4.99 is an introductory offer isn't it?

Also what's the picture quality like? Generally I've found internet HD not as good as broadcast HD?

BBCi player HD is very good indeed...As is Netflix...

Not sure on now TV though...Seems a rip odd to me.And pointless...9.99 for a day sport pass?

If Now TV can offer all the new TV shows (as they are released) like Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, True Detective etc etc etc and other say kids and documentary channels I'm interested...

As long as the picture quality is OK!

Guess the only downside is not being able to record on it?

But how much would that cost? If its no cheaper than TV Sub whats the point?

I think the quality is a tad sus...Did you see Blink Box when it first came out? :p

TV Subscription....

HD at 720p depends on Internet connection. But no 5.1 dolby Digital like Netflix...

At 34.99 for an entertainment bundle I don't get it.....

Is that a month?

Isn't that for a 6month subscription and then it rolls to a monthly subscription at something like £10 or something? Can't see the regular price!?!??!

If nowtv comes to a console it will most likely be the XB1 as it already has sky player on 360.

PS4 is very much being sold as a games console rather than a all in one machine like the XB1.

Now TV has a deal of 35 quid for the box and 6 months sub.

After that it will be whatever the sub cost is per month. Currently 4.99.

Someone mentioned you can't record…isn't it an on demand system?

Haven't got round to ordering it yet.

My humax 1010s is now plugged in and the PQ is astounding. So much superior to my oldish SkyHD box. Like seriously better. Perhaps my box was quite old and the new Sky boxes are better.

One concern is I'm not getting 5.1 over optical…everything says 5.1 over hdmi…. Not a major deal breaker but doesn't sound right.

My amp doesn't process the audio from HDMI, just passes it through.

Just cancelled the Movies off my sky package, was paying £48 for just Entertainment+ and Movies.

Had a right hoo-hard with the guy on the phone, as when he asked my reason for dropping movies, explained I hardly watch anymore and their cheek to change extra for watching movies in HD tipped me into dropping Movies he was really up himself, so I'm glad I now save £16pm by dropping them.

If I had my way I would have canceled the whole thing, but the other half would not have been happy with that, plus I do like to veg out watching Descovery/Nat-Geo/etc, so didn't want to cut my nose off to spite my face, but it is such a waste of money.

Will look into a Netflix or equivalent subscription for much less than I was paying Sky just for Movies, as at least that will give me choice as apposed to just what they want to show you, then repeat, then more repeat...

You would be as well if you were trying to sell it.

Netflix, really? Most people I've read complain about how poor the quality is and colour due to compression for streaming.

I must admit though, some of the Sky Movies stuff is dire due to repeats and a lot of it is 90s stuff. Some is good when you haven't seen it in a while. Then others not so much.

Terminal Velocity 1994. :/

Some of the stuff is so old it reminds me of the Sky Analog school nights.

Speed as well, 1995.

Now TV

£4.99 a month you get 10 channels plus on demand box sets of tv shows only

£8.99 a month and you get movies only

£9.99 per day you get sports

I don't know why you would pick Now TV for £4.99 per month just for box sets when £4.99 gets you netflix does it not which does both?

If you want movies and tv on Now TV it's £14 per month basically. The sport prices are ridiculous.

TV shows are dire nowadays. Everyone seems to be obsessed with CSI, Blue Bloods and the likes.

Have had the Movies package with Sky since as long back as i can recall, just figured in recent months that we just don't watch them any more, but as the account is in my name it was me that had to phone up to do the 'dirty deed', the tipping point was having to pay extra to watch the movies in HD, where as i can watch Discovery (or other Entertainment Channels) in SD or HD should i choose to.

Netflix was just the first thing that came to mind as an alternative, im sure there are better alternatives out there, do you have a personal recommendation ?

Sadly no. As all streaming services butcher the quality so it's smaller downloads compared to the greater quality of Blu-Ray.

I know people prefer Netflix, Lovefilm due to convenience and prefer not to buy Blu-Ray due to storage. It's just there's nothing worse than watching movies thats been butchered from compression vs getting the best experience from Blu-Ray.

Some films on Sky are the same. Elevated black levels, some variations in colours, saturated, less saturated. As people on some forums even compared screen snaps of Lovefilm/Netflix and some other services to Blu-Ray. There was quite a difference. Some not as bad as others but you could still spot it.

It's because of this people ramp up the sharpness on their TV set and think it's sorted.

Torrents :D

I would never intentionally admit to such a thing, but i do have a somewhat vast and ever growing movie library that is not recorded from Sky ;)

Maybe its the only way to do things, if the likes of Netflix/Amazon/Lovefilm are not the way to go, as i have tried LoveFilm in the past (Trial) and i wouldn't rate it at all.
