*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

Now TV

£4.99 a month you get 10 channels plus on demand box sets of tv shows only

£8.99 a month and you get movies only

£9.99 per day you get sports

I don't know why you would pick Now TV for £4.99 per month just for box sets when £4.99 gets you netflix does it not which does both?

If you want movies and tv on Now TV it's £14 per month basically. The sport prices are ridiculous.

You get live tv and catch up.

Anyone know the cheapest way or a code to get Virgin as a new customer? Need Sky Sports, TiVo, movies, 100Mbit+ etc. Or just ring up and see what they can do?

Hey - Try alts as sky have an offer on I think. Also 60mg gets upped to 100 free soon - now I am sure virgin throttle video. I can get you 50 off and 50 to me :D

Tivo worth it? my mate aint a big fan. Considered a htpc maybe? setup streams galore maybe get a tuner too and usenet. Add me if you wanna chat (i need to look like i have mates and i am important.)

MY advice if you can affrod it is a acer revo, itx or nuc for 150ish then layer Windows 8.1or whatever and get stacking.....

Windows8.1 start screen (htpc menus to all programsallon a small ssd even)
XBMC
Media Portal
Meedios
JRIVER
MCE

Can have HTPC manager and sabnxbd, utorrent, sickbeard, etc

Now Meedio was my fav years ago but they changed and cameback - i do like xbmc but some ofit seemsannoying to configure over say meedio. Media Portal may be worth it too. I want to customise themenus more like, have fdault cfg then a user per person giving more choice tothem. SQL database getsshared Iwant!!

I want TV Shows, Movies, (added librarys), Music(will be your userfolders music) then more things like CCTV/IPCAM (iSpy), LIVE TV, Emulator (rom broswer,or summit),game, programs, settings

or be different have Verbs for everything. Wanna get some browser for surfing too

Just cancelled mine. My box decided to crash last night and as a result I've lost everything I'd recorded and was going to record. Quite a blow given it was probably 75-80% full and I had a few series with several episodes recorded. Might be able to get some of them back via repeats/on-demand but I'm going to end up with gaps and I don't trust the box now anyway.

Been wanting to give Netflix another go anyway so it seems as good a time as any.

I'm currently paying circa £70 per month for the Sky variety pack, HD, multi-room, broadband and line rental.

Rang Sky to see if I could get this down a bit because I've been with them for 13+ years and the best they could offer was a small reduction in the multi-room!?!?!

I find it disgusting that new customers can get all sorts of amazing deals and existing customers continue to get the short end of the wedge!!!

Tempted to just cancel all together and get freeview HD instead!!

Do it, I was paying £110 a month and was offered a £7.50 discount!! I binned them off and am now down a different route saving £65 a month for the exact same package.

I have had sky for my entire life, my parents always had it, and i have always had it ever since leaving home around 10 years ago.

I quit every single year and rejoin, i have never ever paid full price. Currently i am on a F&F deal which expires in 2 months time, i will give notice in 30 days and do another one.

The point being that you need to take control of the situation and get the discounts yourself, paying full price for sky is like buying a DFS sofa at full price. I also imagine that if you have simply maintained the account that you are on old clunky hardware too? Again, this is unnecessary :)

Would be interesting if at certain landmark years, they gave you a reward.

eg: After 5yrs they give you a year at X% off. And likewise at 10yrs...

That would seem a nice little reward/incentive!

Thanks for the replies guys!

I'm seriously considering actually cancelling - even though the guy on the phone basically threatened me that I couldn't re-sign up with them as a new customer, even in a different name as the have "ways of checking and will backdate any charges fully" (I suspect this is garbage!)

could have questions though:

1) If I cancel my account completely, what channels will I retain via the Sky box itself? (always only had Sky so don't even have an aerial on the roof for freeview etc!)
2) I assume I will lose access to all of the recordings on the boxes but will I also lose the ability to record even the free to view channels?
3) If I do lose the record capability, what's the easiest way to record from the remaining channels?
4) If you do cancel, how long do you have to not be a customer for before you are considered a new customer again?

Thanks for all the advice guys......

Ive done it loads of times now, i dont think they care :)

1) Not many, you'll want to resubscribe asap
2) Yep, recording and playback wont work
3) You cant via the box, you would need to hook up an external recorder i guess and record via a scart or hdmi output. You wont want to do this.
4) Thats not the idea, i think 12 months, the idea is that you change your details each time. I just switch names each time between me & my partner.

Basically, dont think about using the box without a sub, its garbage :)

I'd just be annoyed that over the transition I'd not be able to record anything.

Do you retain your recordings? Or do you lose those in the account move?

my half price deal ended last month so i called up on saturday to cancel, today i received a call offering me the same package i have at the moment(Sky HD Pack, Variety and movies) for £32, thats only £2 more than i was paying. However i also wanted a new box with the built in wifi for free but after the guy on the phone spoke to his manger he said he couldn't do that.

They are going to call me back next week, should i just go with the deal at £32 or do you think if i ask again i could also get a free Sky HD wifi box?

not sure what to do...

They're probably not going to give you a new box to replace an already-working one (unless you cancel and start an entirely new contract). Maybe try for the wi-fi connector instead, if that's what you want?

id rather the new box as i cba having something else plugged in, just wondering if he really cant give me a new box for free or if he is just saying it...

Not had much experience with them so don't know how good they are at making deals and if what he offered really was the best deal?
