*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

It's being a cheapskate to continually use new customer deals?

Your entitled to your opinion but people don't get rich by giving their money away. If a deal is to be had then why pay more?

e.g. why wouldn't I ask John Lewis to price match on a brand new tv if I found it cheaper at a competitor?

I have never had to use stories because as I've said before I switch between VM and Sky. Just given examples of how someone could have a legitimate reason for signing up as a new customer with sky every year.

It's not as if Sky are going to ask anyone to prove that they truly did have a household breakdown then decided to get back together 12 months later, it's none of their business.

Currently on a better than 50% off deal atm, got £200 worth of credit towards the bill as well as quidco cashback, brand new boxes, modem, the lot. If your happy to keep paying RRP then that is your choice. Also got 6 months free netflix too in the same deal.

So the benefits were half price, £200 of the bill, cashback, all new equipment plus 6 months free netflix for a few minutes work. Never had an issue and never not had sky beg me to come back with ridiculous deals.

To be fair dude, you do come across as a bit of an arrogant know-it-all and the tone you use in your posts is rather standoffish. Your comment of "have you not read any of my posts" to mattyg's genuine question of what to say when cancelling wasn't helpful at all. People in this thread are asking valid questions looking for help and your tone toward them isn't always very helpful.

I've just had a call from someone at Sky, and he offered me the exact 35% off that's in my MySky account section along with £50 credit on my bill. When I told him that I wasn't interested, his tone changed from friendly, he argued with me that NowTV's SkySports cost for SkySports is per day, not per week and is £9.99 (it's £6.99 per day, or £10.99 per week), I told him that's wrong and I'd pay per week anyway costing me £44 over a month to watch the Ashes which is the only sport I'm interested in. He told me that this deal was the best deal I'd ever had and that if I didn't take it, then it'd be gone forever. He was a rather pleasant chap

I got my sub increase letter a little while ago - that's Movies removed from my sky altogether now. I'd play the cancellation game if it wasn't for F1. I get it through my HD sub and don't want to get stuck with always having to have sports as I don't watch anything else.

Just simply leave and sign up as a brand new customer in your partner, brothers, sisters, dads, childrens name.

But you can't keep doing this unless you have a large family, at some point there will be no one left to use.
Virgin media we can't get that up here for some daft reason.

After 12 months you are eligible to become a new customer again and a contract lasts 12 months.

Person A - 12 month contract
Person B - 12 month contract
Person A - 12 month contract
etc

All you need is 2 people you and your partner is ideal. It's how I do it at my in laws it goes from mother in law to father in law then back again.

Listen to this guy, ive done this for quite a few years now. Its never worth staying, just sign up fresh each year and amend your install date each year (you can change the date around online) to be the day before the old one cuts off.

You can then get 50% off, quidco, and a new box (which means you always have the latest one, and can sell the old one, they are worth around £50).

£50? wow I struggle to sell the old ones for £20-£25 on gumtree

how do you manage to get so much? I keep the boxes, remote everything as new.

I think I sold the multi room box still brand new and sealed for like £5-10

That's true I struggled to sell one of mine for £20 on the auction site.

With Sky its also true you cant haggle with the person who you speak to when you want to cancel. You have to wait till retentions ring you later just before your 30 days are up to see what offers they give you, if you like the offer then thats fine take it if dont then sky gets cancelled and go Freeview/NowTV or something else.

Then after a month or two go back to Sky and see what offers they give you. Not the end of the world there are ways to watch what you want.

Got offered 60% by retentions when I went on the online chat having been offered the 35% by e-mail and rejected it. Interestingly that was on TV only - they weren't interested in discounting phone / BB by anything, so I'm moving that to TalkTalk with £125 quidco on offer at the moment. Makes for a very cheap 12 months!

They have to try make their money back from their mental spending on football rights...I expect another increase if they manage to get Clarkson and the team to join.

I wonder if it's because I negotiated my sky package down to under £30 a month. A £3.00 rise would be the full 10% they are allowed then.

I negotiated a lower price when my 12 month contract ended 1 month ago.

Today i got a letter with a price increase of £4.50, will prob cancel and go with Virgin Media sometime this month.

price hike depends on your package

the more you have the more it goes up by, it's as simple as that.

that £4.50 could be a combination of BB charges going up by £1, a certain TV package going up by £2, multiroom going up by 50p, and the sports package going up £1, etc.

so the next guy who doesn't have multi room obviously won't be affected by the 50p hike so his would only be a £4 hike

I canceled the lot, I told them I am not subsidizing their stupid future EPL deal (had earlier canceled sports anyway) with my 'standard' package. Get stuffed SKY.

Poor timing with GOT on (only thing I wanted to watch) but due to other circs I wanted to cancel right away.

The EPL is tripe anyway, over-hyped load of old ********.
