*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

my sky subscription started this side of the month in May last year

does that mean I can now give my 30 days notice ? IE at the 11 months point ?

I don't want to go onto full price - as have full package atm at 1/2 price

Yes. As long as it's not more than 31 days before your contract is due to end. Otherwise it would technically be a 13 month contract?

You must have got F1 near the start… Ah, of course. Sky F1 launched on 9 March 2012. Before it became part of the sports package. Was that in the last year?

I'm on that (legacy) package too! So get F1 but do not have Sky Sports...

Would hate to lose F1!

Yep, still got F1 as part of the original HD package :) really do not want to lose it!

Prices going up on sky will never change due to them paying silly money for the rights to broadcast premier league football:(

they need to pay the footballers more.........

Look what the cost is as well.

However, several sources say they expect an announcement about forthcoming redundancies.

The redundancies are understood to be part of a wider reorganisation of the unit driven by the shift towards more entertainment programming. New working patterns are also expected to be part of discussions.

Around two thirds of Production Services, totalling about 600 people mostly working in studios and post-production, including those on Sky News and Sports, have been called into the meeting.

the only reason why anybody should have a tv sub is for live sports IMO if you don't watch live sport then your better off having broadband only and doing naughty stuff.

paying £50 a month just to watch maybe 4 hours of new content a week is crazy IMO if all your interested is in shows.

I don't have any interest in sport whatsoever but for me there is still no alternative to sky.

Cost of sky this time round (just verified this):
Family pack (all but movies and sports) F&F deal £16pcm*12 months = £192

Less:
£51(+postage) old box
£26(+postage) new boxed dish & lnb
£50 prepaid Mastercard promo

Total = £65 for the 12 months, or just over £5pcm

For this I get a cutting edge warranted box with the best epg around with all the on demand stuff laid on too, and hundreds of channels including loads of documentary ones etc, all in Hd.

The alternative to this is I spend hundreds on a shonky free view box, have hardly any channels, a less featured box which will date and need replacing, etc etc :p It's just not worth running free view Imo.

you must live in london, around here a box is worth £20 at best. also i've never bothered asking for the dish and lnb but i will in future.

the deal you have makes it a no brainer though £5 a month is probably around the price it should be for their normal channels. they are all full of crap bar a very very small selection. all re-runs or old content.

i was around £45 a month for everything and by everything i mean every tv channel inc movies and sports, HD, multi room package (so i had 2 sky hd+ boxes), unlimited phone and unlimited broadband.

Got my letter yesterday, up by £3.50 for next month and my current deal ends then too. Called yesterday and got offered a full £8 p/m off for 12 momths, I laughed and told them to pull the plug asap as I'm not interested in subsidising the ridiculous premier league deal.

I really have no idea how people are getting upwards of 50% off and credit as well. I have had my letter through for 35% off, it stops in two weeks time and I just called to see what else they could offer me. Nothing, exactly the same deal and they won't even entertain anymore. Either I'm late to the party or they just don't want to offer me anything further.

I'm in the same boat.

However, a week pass for Now TV is 10.99 per race. 19 races is £208.91 so £17.40 a month to watch F1 for the year (sort of but you get what I mean)

Not quite sure I'm brave enough to pull the plug completely on the Sky package. :)

Its been a while now since I last had sky, is the F&F deal always 50% off the package or does it change?

Does anyone have any spare F&F codes available or know the best place to obtain one?

Thanks

That's fine if you really do only watch the F1, I junked sky in but was offered the 50% option, they just reinstated my old package even though F1 had moved to sports. Not sure if that is always the case? I'm due to cancel soon myself.

The package changes regularly. Usually it's 50% off but recently it was Family pack free for a year and Sports and/or Movies half price. Send me a trust and I'll sort you out.

^ You will need to cease your service to get the best deals
I think it must depend on who you speak to. I was in exactly the same position, rang to cancel 3 weeks ago and wasn't offered anything more than £6 off per month. Had the 35% sitting on my account until today when I initiated an online chat, they informed me with the 35% off my existing package (Family + Sports + HD) would be £45 per month. I stated that was still a little too expensive and that we had previously been paying £30 per month. The chat came back immediately with an offer of 60% off for 12 months, so I grabbed that straight away before they retracted! £29 per month for another 12 months.

^what he said

we don't watch sports but for £17 quid a month (i think) I think its worth it, we also use the magic eye to send around the house - I haven't seen a similar system available.

I used the online chat last night to see if there was any better offer before my contract ended. The chap I spoke with was very helpful, and after a bit of chatting he offered me 50% off our £87 per month contract for 12 months and also half price multiroom for 12 months, taking us from £87 down to £37.88 per month for the next 12 months with no contract! In all I'm very happy, that's a massive saving of just under £600 per year. I can't fault that!

Good deal that Chokka! Im paying a tad more for Sports, HD, Family Pack, BB and Phone and need to get it down.

Been thinking of cancelling and signing up in my Mrs name but not sure if we would lose our telephone numbe and how it would affect that and BB?!!?

Ok so having checked my account, it would appear that the agent I spoke with hasn't applied my offer correctly. It comes out at £49 per month instead of £37 as agreed, and it looks like the reason for this is because he hasn't discounted something. I don't know whether this is normal or not but now I have to contact Sky tonight to get this corrected. I have a full transcript of the chat and what was agreed as the discount saved as a log so I have proof of what was originally offered.

I would assume that you'll lose your number in that situation, and you'd have about 7 - 10 days of no BB due to re-activation etc.
