*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

4 and a half hours ago I was on the phone to sky and verbally agreed a contract renewal.
I've thought it over this afternoon and decided that actually the renewal isn't right for me.
so.. I called them back asking to cancel and they've told me it will cost over £400 to cancel.

Has anyone encountered this sort of BS before? do sky not offer a grace period for contract renewals?

Any advice?

How on earth is it BS!? You agreed to a contract, it's reasonable to assume that if you agreed, you'd thought about it.

Anyone know if you can get a free installation when moving home ?.
I'm about to move and wonder if I should stay on current contract and haggle better deal or cancel and get new contract using new address and wifes name.

Interesting, I am going to add broadband pro and phone to current deal too as I cant get virgin at new address (shame cos virgin just announced speed boost to 200mb). I hoping I can beat Sky into a good deal then ask for free install at new address.

Went to cancel and they gave me a offer for 60% off, so paying £33.45 (sports & movies) and no contract so can cancel when I want.

I've jus rechecked email I received when I renegotiated in May and even though I was put on rolling monthly deal discounted for 10 months it says right at bottom all TV services subject to 12 months min con tract ?

I'm assuming it does not apply otherwise will be very annoyed

I did check with phone operator when took this our and was told could cancel at any time just with a 31 days notice

Could others check their email confirmat ion please

I was on a 10 month cancel anytime. I went onto live chat to cancel (8 months in) and it was fine. However, she said I may as well go the full 10 months so took my cancellation there and had an email confirming it will end in November and the final payments.

I was told a rolling contract was not available.

Having been with Sky for best part of a decade this is really starting to leave a sour taste in my mouth.

I did ask them to reiterate the terms and they mentioned I can leave when I want, they did this with my broadband and telephone which I cancelled 8 months in as I was waiting for fibre.

When you renewed your deal the call centre staff member would have categorically said, a new 12 month contract starting from now. You would have to agree or they wouldn't have processed the deal for you..

nope the deal included 50 credit

and he specifically said that I could even start my cancellation (31 days) the following day and effectively (due to credit) have a free month

My month's notice period is today, so going to ring up and negotiate a deal. Is the best one going still the 60%/£100 credit the day after you get cut off?

Hve you been cut off yet?

You normally get the 60% and £100 credit the day after your cut off.

If you are at the begining of the 30 days, i cant see you getting it, you would appear too keen :D
