Do you think the same about Young at Utd Tummy? He's going to have to play at a bit more than 7/10 too :p

Actually with the 7/10 thing I kind of expect Downing to be 7's most of the time with the occasional 5/6 and the occasional 8/9.

Young I'd expect could blow much more hot and cold, he just needs to be more consistent. I've seen him be amazing for Villa and I've not noticed him on the pitch, Downing is always doing something very work horse, Like Milner but with talent.

He's not been at a club the size of Liverpool before but when making the step up from Boro to Villa, his performances improved too. Hopefully they will again. Some players play better with better players around them.

As for 7/10 performanes; it's not about individual performances. Downing won't have to win games on his own, he's being brought in to assist others in winning us games.

Oh I was kind of hinting at that with I expect him to be a better player due to better players around him, you don't buy a player like Downing to win games on his own, he's a cog in the machine if you will, I view young as a much more flare player. Just my own opinion though.

It will be interesting if he can step up, I do hope he does but I always have doubts over players that jump up to L'pool and United as it's unlike any other English club to be honest.

Chelsea and Arsenal just don't have the same history.

Young just seems to be the English version of Nani, just with less ability and if he blows hot and cold as well, he won't be of too much use.

I think that now, but I've seen a few games where Young has shown a real touch of class, I think under Fergie he could develop in to a great attacking winger / midfielder, good feet, pacey, technical AND a brain. All important, he tracks back as well.

Downing is a bit older, so less likely to improve massively but I think that's what L'pool need, a player who can do his job, be a cog in the machine (Liverpool are much more workman like in defense then United imho (don't kill me for that) United rely on a good defense and a couple of players helping out, L'pool everyone helps out) and is a good crosser already, not someone who needs time.

I was reading something that Lawro (lol) said earlier. He was talking about Young and said that he could very well start performing for Utd as there'd be less pressure than there is at Villa where they expect him to co-ordinate attacks and make things happen week in, week out. Whereas at Utd they maybe have more creative players so the pressure is off Young a little bit. Fairly straightforward comments tbh but I'm not sure if I agree with them.

I think transfer fee and those very high wages will add pressure on Young more than Lawro thinks.

Oh I agree, I think I was kinda making that point with having better players around them, in a sense there is less pressure on them to be the star man, but there is another sort of pressure playing at United / L'pool. These are two of the bigger clubs in World Football.

I'm not sure the fee or wages will make a difference. The biggest problem players have when moving to bigger clubs is the expectancy of consistent performances rather than the fee's they're signed for.

You can put in a decent performance and then coast for the next 2 games and at some clubs they'll focus on the 1 decent performance but at bigger clubs they'll focus on the other 2 games.

This.

Also lol Swansea, actually interested if they'll stick with their guns (possession, 4-3-3 attacking football) or they'll try and just survive taking a Stoke like approach :p

Swansea are the Barcelona of Welsh football.

Mmm I see what you're saying. I just think that this summer we've seen a few players go for what many people have said is a high price for the type of player and maybe they'd expect that player to perform given how much they'd been paid. Maybe the money won't affect Young, but I thought that the fans expecting him to perform based on how much money was involved.

This.

Yup! Watched a few league games last season and of course the playoffs which were on TV anyway. A bit fortunate to go through against Forest who hit the post about a zillion times but they did deserve it, and then that game against Reading which had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. :p

Hopefully they make a few decent signings as I read De Vries has gone somewhere, coulda been Wolves I can't quite remember. I hope they keep hold of their best players though, the likes of Sinclar, Monk, Tate, Rangel had a good playoff, Nathan Dyer oh and I hope they manage to keep Borini too.

Well meh to Adam, I Dont rate Downing lots either but he does provide something we don't have which is width so i can see exactly why we have or are going to buy him but Adam not at all, Hell Riera wasnt a great player but in times he did play he did okay and put in some very good crosses and give us that width but due to a silly spat with Rafa it ended him here.

However if they don't start atleast it gives is okay to good players to come on from the bench as whilst i think our youth is coming on very good their allot less likely to change the game for us.

So far we spent a fair bit but if Ngog goes for 5m then we def off load Cole/Konchesky/Poulsen which i think at max we would only get 14-20m tops for all least its them gone.

KK Still needs to address the LB and CB position thou which we haven't yet :(. I also hope that if all these midfield players end up coming to us it doesn't end spell of Lucas cause i know not many people rate him here but he has been a quality player for us last 2 seasons and Adam/Gerrard cant do as good as job as DM. I do wonder if this spells end for Raul thou even thou he had a good 2nd half if we get Mata i can see Raul going though as he has interest from Italy

Respected scout Tor-Kristian Karlsen spoke last month about Ricardo Alvarez who we've been linked to recently:

If he was 17-18 I'd understand European top clubs making a move, but at 22 I find it hard to believe he'll reach a top European level

Also I read that the guy doesn't even start regularly for his current club so no idea, especially at 22 years old why we'd be looking at him. The Sun even said that we were lining him up in an £11,000,000 deal as "The new Cesc" which is just absolutely lolworthy on every single level.

Personally I'd be pleased if we kept our best players, that includes Nasri despite what DM says, and if we signed another CB, a left back to replace Clichy, a new forward and a new right sided winger. I think that Nasri, Arshavin and when he plays, Rosicky can cover the left just fine. Even though I'd like Arshavin central I doubt it's gonna happen and he gets enough goals and assists on the left side to be considered effective.

With the Internet around and fans with half a braincell I don't know why newspaper sports writers even bother making up absolute rubbish. Cesc is "free" to leave if Nasri stays. Free apart from the £40,000,000+ that he's worth of course, and then The Mirror saying that Alvarez, Chamberlain and Gervinho are all ready to be announced as our new signings on the 1st of July. Such bull and to be honest I'm not that bothered about any of the three previous mentioned. Gervinho has the potential, couldn't give two ****s about Chamberlain and Alvarez though.
