TBF to Barca can you imagine how gutting it must be to have to buy back what was once your player at god knows how much over what got for him in the first place (that is under the assumption that Arsenal did even have to pay some kind of compensation fee)

It's not like they even wanted to sell him in the first place!

Obviously not expecting any sympathy for them on here though :D

I'm not sure why people think Barca own him just because he trained there and was born there. They make the decision whether to hang onto these players or not. He turned out better than they thought. Tough really.

Arsenal gave him a place to play at the top level at a very young age. We all know he will eventually go there but they have no "right" to him and should pay the money asked for a contracted player or move on.

His contract is until 2015 I believe. If anything his value will only go up if they don't buy him. Unless he loses heart.

That's hardly true though is it?

They cant sign professional contracts over there as early as they can over here, Arsenal benefited by that the same as way we did with Pique. Nothing to do with Fabregas turning out to be better than they thought.

Isn’t there a rule whereby European clubs can’t offer a player a contract till after a certain age, however British clubs don’t have to follow it, therefore allowing them to often poach youngsters from abroad at a low cost.

I’m sure that’s how we got Rossi years ago and probably many others as well and the clubs could do nothing if the kids head was turned

Gah, beaten like Madeline Mccann

Oh yeah I bet the whole thing is pretty gutting for them financially but then I couldn't give a flying **** about Barcelona's feelings. :p

So you are telling me that Barca could not convince him to stay if they really wanted him that badly?

Reality is that he would never have got in the side and may never had considering the players they had at the time. He would have just been sold on later.

Arsenal offered him what he wanted and needed. The chance to play football at the highest level. Rather than just train at the highest level.

Arsenal showed him that they considered him good enough even at 16 to play. Barca showed him that they had better players on their books already and he wouldn't play.

Like I said if Barca said to him, in two years you will be playing first team football he would have stayed. They wouldn't had to say a lot to get him to stay if they thought he was good enough.

The only thing Barca are maybe owed is maybe a little more compensation. £1-5m maybe for his age? But certainly not the £10-15m they keep under pricing him.

Even if he was signed up he would have left anyway for the good of his career.

I dont know the ins and outs no one does but it's my opinion that both Arsenal and United used a legal loop hole in order to sign Fabregas and Pique.

Not sure about him not being able to get into their team back then either tbh, he signed for Arsenal in 2003 a time when Barca had in midfield an ageing Davids, Cocu, Motta and back then Xavi wasn't the world beater he was now either. Not saying Csec didn't decide to join Arsenal because of the notion he'd get first team chances quicker at Arsenal I'm just arguing that I'm not sure he was correct.... if anything one would think now would be the hardest time for him to get into the team with the recent emergence of Busquets.

They don't deserve any sort of reduction in his potential transfer fee. We paid for him at the time, end of story. It doesn't matter where he came from, Barcelona should have added some sort of clause if they truly believed in him.

Again I dont know all the ins and outs but the fact he wasn't on a contract with them surely makes that impossible? Unless it's something they could have added into any compensation deal (again not sure if that's even possible)?

I doubt it, compo would be decided by an independant arbiter without any clauses or constraints, wouldn't it?

Not sure, but it isn't our fault that he was too young for them to sign him, it may be unethical, but as long as it doesn't break any rules then I have no problem with it.

That would be hard as didnt have a contract.

Then Barcelona don't deserve any cut in price. Like I said it isn't our fault, those are the rules in their league/country. They're simply trying to under-pay us for one of the world's best midfielders, purely on his passport. If they can pay in excess of £30,000,000 for players who they discard a year later, then they can pay what Arsenal deem Fabregas to be worth. Barcelona don't have a say in this, he's under contract until 2015 so they can keep offering us £25,000,000 until then if they like.

:p

Whats the deal with man united's RB position? Is Fabio and Raf it? Jones and Smalling are set to take either Vidic's or Rio's spots, right? Are we buying any RB's? With Brown and O'shea on the go, Fab and Raf are the only two that fit that role. Unless Valancia goes RB and Nani/Young go on the wing?

It's hardly a loop hole if they aren't allowed to sign players that young. They could 'convince' a player to stay if they wanted. Arsenal just offered him the better deal.

Do you want to watch football or play it fab? ;)

With the prices that players are being sold for at the moment anything below £40m is just insulting. The only difference is that we are selling our player and Barca tried to sell a player that trained with them.

Teams have players on trial all the time where they train with the club. Doesn't mean we can sell them.

Fabio
Rafael
and if needed, Smalling, Fletcher and Valencia can all play there

We're well stocked in that area IMO
