Summer Transfer Window 23/24

:D other than that scouser who went through John Arne Riises bins and found his payslip 20 years ago has anyone ever seen any evidence of footballers salaries? Poor Saka has lost a third of his income in the space of just a couple of hours, heart bleeds for the lad.

I know you’re jesting, but seriously, I can’t understand people who say this is a bad deal. £60m over 4 years. Could we buy a Saka replacement for that money? Of course not. Plus we would have to add wages to the transfer fee.

Saka is already the 6th most valuable player in the world, £60m over 4 years is decent. I know for a fact the likes of City, Pool, Utd, Chelsea would all pay him that.

Oh Saka is worth every penny you are paying him IMO. Doesn't seem like he is too big for his boots and I can't say I have ever heard a bad word about the lad. This is always the conundrum with top players who might leave. Do you pay them a massive salary and chance that they will drop their form or do you sell and try and replace with a cheaper option and hope to develop.

Saka is vital to Arsenal at the moment and you would be silly not to pay him a top salary to keep him. If you didn't someone else would.

Na I want our players to consistently win stuff and /or compete at the highest level with the likes of man city and real Madrid before commanding wages that there players earn..

Thats all I am asking...

Well then you are asking for your players to go to RM and City then. If you don't pay your star players the salary that their talent and form deserves then you will never keep them long enough to win those trophies. Team building takes years and if you lose your best players to penny pinching every few years you will never get anywhere.

As others have pointed out, if you lose these players you didn't pay much for then you will have to replace them and are unlikely to be able to replace them for less money/salary and you take a massive risk they won't work out.

Agree with this - he's amongst the best young wingers in the world, his attitude is fantastic, and his ceiling is huge. They'd be mad not to pay to keep him, as long he wasn't taking the ****.

He’s not fishing imo, he genuinely believes in what he’s saying.
Yea im not baiting anyone.

Baz is wrong in assuming so as always.

Anyways I hear what others have said but I still feel that we are taking a gamble offering silly money for players who have not won the big trophies yet.

We've been burned soo many times offering huge contracts to players who all of a sudden switch off and take the money week in week out.

Saka’s basic is £200k pw. If you class that as silly money, then your heads in the clouds.

If Arsenal want to compete at the top level they'll have to start paying top wages. No way around it.

You're better off paying high wages to a player who is proven in the league, it's pretty cheap in many respects. You could end up with a Pepe/Sancho situation... paying an absolute fortune for a near useless player.

Yea thats true and his still young. The chances of of him becoming a Aubameyang mk2 are slim but we never ever imagined Aubameyang going to crap after he signed as well.

Robbo, would you give rashford a top wages?

His been one of the best strikers in the league

Based on this season, yes. I do have concerns about the previous couple of seasons though. He was utterly awful for ages.

I may be remembering this incorrectly but didn't the vast majority of his goals come in a purple patch in the middle of the season? I thought he was pretty poor early on and towards the end. He's clearly a good player and when on form is up there but it doesn't seem like he's consistent enough.
