*** Tado Mini Review ***

I was lucky with my tado in that the controls were integrated into my combi boiler, so all I had to do was screw the thermostat to the wall in the hallway.

When we get unvented next year I'll need to get the bridge for hot water I suppose...

Very tempted by their current special offer. I would need to buy an additional unit though for two zones taking it up to £155 to rent for a year. As I pay £60 a month for joint gas and electric I struggle to see how I would make anything close to that back in savings, especially in a new build...

That's the only thing holding me back at the minute. Unfortunately my current setup keeps flaking on me (heating not kicking in during periods set on programmer, even though thermostats are below temp as they click) so hoping this would fix it.

Anyone know how zones work with this? I assume they would both trigger when you get near the house?

I'm not really interested in the money saving anymore as the features and convenience are so fantastic that I'd be happy if it saved me no money.

Looking at my situation now.....can get away with single control unit. Turns out the second thermostat and zone aren't got the entire upstairs as I thought. The zones are Master bedroom and Rest of House.....really worth putting the manifold in there.

As I kind of know when I will be going to bed can live with set timer there

Ah, I didn't think of that! I could just leave upstairs on a normal timed, temp controlled thermostat as current and have the downstairs run via Tado. The difference in price is £60 a year so a decent saving.

Really, the only times I won't be saving is when I'm away and I can put the timer into holiday mode. I believe I am right in saying any existing timers will remain attached to the boiler, you just set it to always on.

Edit: If you call them they will give you another 10% off the current winter special pricing!

Tado also confirmed that their radiator valves are going on sale Q3 2016. You can pre-order at £2.50 per month or £60 per unit.

I have manual TRVs on my radiators at the minute so not sure they would really be worth while. I have the spare room and bathrooms turned down slightly anyway. Other than that my kitchen and living room should be at the same temperature as the thermostat in the hallway and my master bedroom has its own thermostat.

All ordered yesterday and is now winging it's way to me. Hopefully it may be here by the weekend, but more than likely will be here by next week.

Have just sent a query to CS as I already have an account from when I had the orignal one, and was wondering if this needs to be deleted so that I can then get the walkthrough for installation. When I logged in was told tado is now connected to the internet (that may the be rather large airgap at present....) and there were no other options.

Hopefully they will sort it out.

May do a revisit on my original review for this one too.....keep things up to date and all

Think I may have answered my own question by reading my initial post.......hoping that when I connect the gateway up, will then get the guidance for thermostat installation.......oh how the memory fades. But ot be fair I have slept and drank a fair bit since I first installed it...brain fade

Well...tado have deleted my old account, so will go through setup as a new customer now.

DHL tracking showing it as received at German depot and now waiting to be exported. Reckon I will be looking at tuesday or wednesday next week for it now

Tado turned up yesterday, but was missed delivery...came via DHL to UK then Parcel Farce...could see exactly where it had been in Germany and then when it reached the UK.....nadda.

Have had a quick look in the box and all looks good.

Will be doing another review on this one, inc unboxing pics...including obligotary OTT bokeh shots.

You might be waiting another 12-24 hours before you can use it. I had to wait for them to send me an installation manual for my programmer once I had registered both boxes...

Gutted, my boiler isn't compatible with it.

Worse than that, I can't even see how my set up works. My boiler only has a mains power cable to it, the thermostat cable disappears into the wall and doesn't appear at the boiler, yet it definitely controls it.

Stumped.

Glow-Worm flexicom cx and Climastat.

Ended up taking the boiler interface to bits. What I thought was my power cable was actually a 5 core cable for power and signal. So I reckon I've got a junction box hidden in the wall somewhere where the cable from the stat and a cable from the mains are combined.

Problem I've got is my thermostat is actually a low voltage serial comms connection over 2 wires so not enough cores for the Tado.

Ended up ordering a Hive 2.

That's the same boiler I've got as well, mine is powered off an fcu in the garage and I have another cable that goes from the boiler to a honeywell CM901 programmer/thermostat.

I only require heating control and not hot water since I only have a combi boiler.

Would the tado be compatible with my system, I'm a bit unsure from what the tado website says,

I wanted to ask this - I have a new combi boiler in my kitchen where the scheduling/timing controls are integrated into the boiler and then a analogue dial thermostat in another room for the temperature. WOuld I just need to replace my thermostat with the Tado smart one and plug in the bridge and off I go?

I've also sent Tado an email so will see what they say.
