*** The 2010 Gym Rats Thread ***

Grip comes in time. There's no quick way of training it - it just takes time. Lots of deadlifts, weight lifting, and some grip strength will help - but also it is just a matter of the size of your hands, and how active you were as a child, climbing trees exercise etc... that's how it develops. Many factors - it's one of the hardest things to train IMO.

Just for a laugh I'm going to see how much I can hold onto without straps one weekend when the rack is empty, and just see what I can hold on to! :D

Yeah, whey is fine substitute or addition to your diet if proper food is not an option. However as you know from me (:o) I much prefer whole foods but I perhaps budget for more food than a lot of you and maybe can afford it. Don't get me wrong a shake is convenient I'm not too blinkered or short sighted to admit that. As I've said if I've had a poor food day I do use shakes or if stuck in day long meetings. Just like in cars where there's no replacement for displacement, for me there's not replacement for food. Not just because it tastes good, but there's a whole physiological reaction to eating food and a psychological one too which does have a positive effect on digestion and also your mood. Sounds wishy-washy but there is science behind it. :)

The app I use is called gymbuddy.

Out of interest, do you do high volume with BW, or lower volume with added weight?

BW is usually warm up and tend to just do around 10 or so.

I will also do them on warm down as a last burn out set.

PS - CoC are quite good, but most people struggle with the trainer and the #1 is already quite taxing for most. It does help, but it takes years and years of training to build up significant grip.

I appreciate your irritation of your grip - I have the opposite problem, my strength gives out before my grip! :(

Plate pinches are good, as are wrist rollers - you can make these yourself and save money. :)

I'm not built like morba or tank but nor am I a skinny dude and get nothing but smiles from check out girls and women in general probably because I smile and flirt with most women I meet. I don't think it's because you're a big I think it's just your attitude.

Psycho, mixed grip is what I use when double overhand starts to fail when it gets heavy.

Its a slow healer due to the complex nature of the shoulder joint, I know FF has had issues with his and recommends doing some very light RC exercises which work well to help strengthen it.

Yup light light light, slow, high rep RC work moving in all planes of motion - however this was evaluated by my physio - I have LOTS of exercises for it, but it was taylored by my physio for my injury specificall.y

I noticed!

It's the first time I've had an injury as such since I started lifting. Gutted :(

Would be interested to hear more from FF. FF where are you?? :D

As above sadiqii.

See a GOOD physio - I know they're expensive, but a good one is worth it's weight in gold IMO. :) Don't try and self heal unless you are 100% sure, even then it's worth getting a second opinion. :)
