*** The 2013 Gym Rats Thread ***

I'll have a look at the belt my gym sells - it's a non-tapered (i.e. whoever made it wasn't stupid) leather prong jobbie. Looks fairly thick too, probably no harm in starting off with that before dropping £60+ on a decent one. They do a deadlift belt too, I'll have to ask what the deal is with that but I think it's not as wide. Doubt I need it tbh. Will still order a blue/green/red band... wanna order my Oly shoes too, just a bit iffy on sizing.

Finally back onto squats today having recovered from a quad injury / twinge. Hooray!

I became everything I hated today. There was someone squatting a heavy weight for multiple reps, but he was going maybe to 45 degrees? It was just silly.

I decided to call him Mr. Kipling, for doing his exceedingly deep-filled apple pie squats.

God, I'm such a dick.

So, I was due to hit triple figures on my squat today but had to bail out of the session.. Somehow I've really done a number on my left shoulder driving to work/changing gear.... Seriously?! In 26 strong lifts sessions I've only had minor niggles and never been properly injured and now I manage this?! Luckily my sister is a physio and she's back staying at my parents house this weekend so I'm going o go and see her and see if she can diagnose what I've done. Hopefully it's nothing major.

Hi guys,

Could I get some tips on bent-over-rows (I do these with One Arm dumbbell rows).

I do these with relatively close grip (underhand). Is this the correct way? I've seen people doing wide grip (shoulder length), using overhand.

I'm suddenly a fatty. DAYUM!

That's a good read as well :) Will have a play with a few things

LOL :D

That 24 second deadlift was shocking

I mean, I don't even know where to start here.

Really, how the hell are these places allowed to run?

Now I'm not a total crossfit hater, as I can see advantages to it. But never comprising form has been set in stone since gyms opened why try and change the No.1 rule?

And kipping? Don't start me on that *****.

I raise you

WHY ARE THEY ALL PREGNANT

lmfao. heavily pregant woman doing ring muscle ups. next video is someone doing ring muscle ups and the rings pulling the ceiling down... consequences will never be the same

Crossfit has so so many fails.

I still agree with the basic concept mind you, the ability to be able to do a fast 5k run, a fast 2k row, Dl 200kg, be able to climb a rope etc...
It's just that it's so poorly executed by so many of their official franchises that you can't not think 'WTF are you doing'!

The guy who did that deadlift is co-director of the CrossFit Training Department and the Director of the CrossFit Games.

And that's my problem with CrossFit. There are CrossFit gyms which have good programs, but these places are doing their own thing and ignoring whatever the official WODs are, as most of it is directionless and lol. Also the money side of the thing strikes me as very dubious - lots of expensive membership fees and cliquey-ness to foster that cult mentality, expensive courses to be 'certified' - that Glassman guy is laughing all the way to the bank.

Things like barbell complexes were around before Crossfit (Oly lifter warmups hamirite), as was cross-functional training, it's just someone had a good business idea and ran away with it. Some of the stuff in the fail vids makes me think of the whole right to own arms thing in the US - it's like they think Crossfit will prepare them for when 'the enemy' invade and they have to fight for their freedom or something.

Over here it's not that big luckily, although we have insults to weightlifting like Body Bump instead haha.
