*** The 2013 Gym Rats Thread ***

seriously, the standard bars at "the gym" gyms are heaver than 10kg :) i've compared the weights it must be 15ish.

ez bar is lighter than that, oly is 20kg im sure of it but as i've said the same oly plates fit on standard and ez bar..

all im saying is that its heavier than 10kg thats all :o

Yes, our plates fit the Oly, ez and small ball, otherwise you'd have random sized plates all over the place :p

im just trying to find a reason why the standard bar weights more than 10kg :) and the only reason i can think of is that they are made to be used with oly plates.

Im confused, isnt an oly bar a bar that takes oly plates, a standard bar is a bar that takes standard plates. Whgat am i missing that makes your standard bar not an oly bar>?

standard bar is the short bar rated up to 110ish kg thats what i call a standard bar, yes it takes oly plates(bigger holes) but thats the only difference that i can see.

oly bar weights 20kg and can take up to 1500lbs(at my gym) and its longer.

thats how i differentiate between them i could well be wrong :)

but when people say "standard" bar the first thing that pops to my mind is the short bar and everyone keeps saying that generally these weight 10kg, while the ones at my gym sure as hell weight more - can't tell how much more exactly but they feel like 15kg bars.

I suspect you've just picked up a 6' Olympic bar and that might weigh 15kg but the normal size that most refer to is a 7' Olympic bar which weighs 20kg give or take.

A "standard" bar as I'd understand it is one that you'd probably pick up in Argos or wherever which has a much narrower diameter hole for the plates.

Standard weights are 1" holes; Olympic are 2".

You can have an EZ curl bar that takes Olympic weights in the same way you can have a barbell that takes standard ones.

Olympic barbells can be 5' in length, and standards can be 7'.

Thats awesome motivation. Whats with the wide grip on the press?

I see people do the same wide grip on squats. Just stability?

Nope: just plain, old awesome.

Klokov is massively strong, even if he isn't the best Olympic lifter.

The snatch grip OHP is murder on the delts and traps and pretty pointless (in isolation) for anybody that isn't an Olympic lifter. Who else lifts like that? :)

wow, that is seriously impressive video, need to try this (with lighter weight :( )

Leg's are getting hit twice a week now. A separate quad / hamstring day session.

Yesterdays session - I am in serious pain :(

4000 calories a day and you're only on 350g of carbs?! WOT?!

Are you eating an excessive amount of protein or something?
