*** The 2013 Gym Rats Thread ***

Figures are in i have put 2.8kg over the x-mas period, i expect 90% to be water weight ;) two weeks binge is over and the new diet / training started today. I feel like a bird already there is so much seeds and nuts in the diet it's insane, something i have not used in my diet before other than almonds. Now there is pumpkin seeds, hemp, sunflower, walnuts, , cashew nuts, and pecan.

i have 100 days to drop 3% body fat, setting the goals and getting where i need to be before some summer model work.

Well tonight is my first session back in two weeks, i have let my CNS recover and its time to hit legs. DOM'S i have missed you ;)

I'm going to kick the **** out of 2013.

Happy new year all.

So.. I may have put on 5kg over the Christmas period. :o It's so so so so easy to eat lots - I've missed it. Ah well! :p I'll get back to trim shape. :)

Today was going to be the big return to the gym, hrrrr!

In reality, I've struggled to get out of bed, have a ruined body clock and bearly have the strength to make a cup of coffee.

A squat PB might be unrealistic.

Can't wait for tonight!

Hello.

Im looking to cutting down on my bf % over the next 4-6 months.

The routine, sticked in this thread, can it be used on a calorie restricted diet?

Yes. If you read it, it doesn't distinguish between gainz and flabz. If you want something more specific or have at least some experience of free weights, ask: we're here to help. :)

For the forseeable future i have no access to the gym due to financial issues, for at least two months i'm stuck with only dumbells.

Any recommendations for maximum gainz?

Trim down with cardio weights? :D

What weights are the dumbells? What are you used to lifting? Etc.? I have a dumbell routine floating around somewhere, but it's pretty pointless if you've only got your other half's 3-stack of poly-coated Davinas lying around... :)

Agreed. Big Z's 220kg log press was amazing though.

the way he lifted it id say he had more in the tank on it as well.

shame for terry looks like thats him finished now and katona as well.

shaw just didnt look the same guy but not sure how bad his arm is but it did seem to effect his grip so could be worse than he's admitted.

and Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson is looking like he'l be a beast come next years comp.

another guy who looked off the boil was Johannes Årsjö.

but as many said this years field was probably the best field by far of any.

shame for lallas though, if he had a couple more inches of height he'd have won the thing i bet.

All the competitors are getting stronger and fitter. People will struggle to keep doing repeat wins. I think Terry won't be around the comps much longer - too many injuries and a little old now.

Shame there aren't any froggies that do this comp - they're too busy eating cheese and drinking wine to care :p

Lallas will be a contender, but he's so short he's going to struggle on some events.

I am a huge fan of Bjornsson though - what a man mountain!

he admitted that he'd been training more along body building lines, if he can get his fitness and technique up he'l do well. but with others doing the same it could be anyone of half a dozen come this years.

He's got natural strength without the same size, experience or training as the others which bodes well for him though. He also looks bad ass and I wouldn't be surprised to see him in a few films sooner or later.

Weighed in this morning at 14stone! :D

Bulk has went well, not to maintain it and lift stronger this year than I ever thought I would. Lifted more than I ever thought possible last year. This year is going to rock for my fitness. Going to add more cardio this year too, want more all round fitness.

Still going to stick to 5/3/1 for the foreseeable future and keep progressive even if its only small.

Keeping lean is the plan this year, carrying some crimbo fat but with some crap diets coming up (uncontrollable unfortunately) no doubt I will end up losing some of it. :/

not got any 24hour £14 a month gyms you could use?

Surely there is another part of life that could be sacrificed? do you smoke/drink? if so cut back on one or the other or both that is a great source of funds :)

if you really cant get in a gym then fair enough, you can pretty much emulate all the big movements with DB's

I don't really have ANY spare disposable cash atm due to issues with work and stuff the money i currently have will be used for my rent / food and bills along with my transport costs to and from work for the next 6 -8 weeks.

They are of varying weights, iirc the weights themselves rack up to about 60kg altogether.. i think.

Haven't been lifting for a while been wallowing in a pit of laziness tbh.

Will check weights tonight / tomorrow for weights as i'm just about to leave for work and the old mans car is in the garage atm , note i do have a barbell in the garage that i suppose i could use for squats and stuff but i don't have a bench.

Dumbell routine.

If you've got a bar, then great, but with the kind of weights we're talking about it may be a bit pointless.

However, for the 'bench' work, just work on floor pressing. It's not ideal, but will keep you going. Ways and means, and all that. :)
