The Acer ONE Thread

Hmm...it's decision time for me, between this (8GB flash drive version, don't want all that HDD nonsense!!!) and the Eee. Ideally I want the Eee 901, but money may be an issue.

I'm not trying to knock the One or those that have bought it at all, but I am curious about your reasons for buying one over a high end Atom Eee. From what I can tell the only thing that the One has over the Eee 901 is a better keyboard. Like I say, I may be wrong, and am not trying to knock the One, but I need some help in deciding!
 
Personally I went for the Aspire One as its £100 cheaper than the 901.
All the 901 has over the One is the following in my opinion:

1.3 Mega Pixel Camera - not an issue to me
20GB SDD HD - 8GB seems enough for me so far, and with the expansion slots no issue
802.11N Wireless - Again not to bothered, the One has amazing wireless built in for range
6600mAH Battery - This is probably the only one I see as a benefit, but I have bought an external battery, so I am happy
Bluetooth - I hardly use bluetooth, and if I do, I have a dongle anyway.

In conclusion for me. The One is better value for money over all, better for me to use as the keyboard is the perfect size, and it looks the part in blue :)

I definately see where you are coming from-like you say, the main thing is the 6600mAH battery in the Eee which really appeals to me. Sorry if I'm sounding thick but what do you mean by an external battery? I assume it isn't one which sits away from the machine itself...

How long is the battery life on your new battery and how much did it set you back?

The other thing that really appeals to me about the Eee is multitouch...
 
Had alittle go of one of these in a big high street retailer's today and i now want one. ram upgrade and some more memory would be cool. Is there much support for programs in linux? ive never used it before :/

also they were £50 more in this retailers gggrrrr
 
Heres hoping mine will arrive this week.

The place I got it from normally delivers the day before on preorders, or early morning on the day scheduled.

I can't wait for it to turn up :)
 
I had a play with one today in Purple Shirt Land.

It's very nice. The keyboard is fine for touch typing, unlike the too-small-ness of the EEE 701.

Not worth £250, but maybe that's just me being cheap.

If I knew they were going to bring out an HSDPA module and it had easy-to-upgrade RAM (rather than removing most of the body to get at the socket), I'd be tempted to re-order one. (Wish I didn't cancel that pre-order now :( )

As it is, I'll wait for autumn and see if a proper HSDPA one turns up on the horizon. Or I'll snap one up as soon as I see it for £200...

Yeah I do think some stores are charging too much for it, it was £199 when they first were released and then got changed to £220+

I was thinking about cancelling my preorder as to whether I actually need one, but then I thought well it's going to cost me £199 not £225 so I'm saving £25 *shrugs*
 
Well, tomorrow is D-Day according to the site I preordered mine from... no news yet to say it's been dispatched though :(

Just checked my account with them and it's still down as "Preordered - Acer Aspire One - £199.99"

a) I hope they send it in time for the weekend

b) I hope they stick to the preorder price when I ordered it a month back...


Fingers crossed my next post in this thread will be from my Acer One.
 
I'm in the same situation, but I'm on holiday next week.
Hoping it will be ready for me when I get back.
Bought an iphone to play with in the meantime :)
 
Well unfortunately I'm not posting from my One yet, however my order status has been updated from "Pre-Ordered" to "Order Taken".

So the next stage is the shipping, I'm hoping that it'll arrive tomorrow but my head is telling me Monday :(

Believe me I've thought about cancelling it and picking one up... but the £25 saved means I can get an SD card or USB DVD drive as an extra.

I was really hoping it would be here today, or at least for the weekend - I doubt it very much now though.

I just hope it's worth the wait :p

No news on mine at all, still stuck at the "Order Taken" stage.

I would be pretty darn sure I was one of, if not the first person to order from this site as I ordered within the first few hours of them actually putting them on their website.

The stock status for the model I've preordered shows Out Of Stock... so I'm not sure what's going on here at all.

Here's hoping for next week then :(
 
just picked mine up from the mm on here, posting from it now. think i am going to go for a 16gig card. hopefully i can get it to run itunes!
 
Anyone who preordered it from the web got theirs yet?

Mine is still at the 'Order Taken' stage unfortunately :-/

Righty ho, little update here.

Just spoke to the company that I ordered mine off, and they said unfortunately they've gone out of stock. They didn't get the amount they expected to on first shipment, so as soon as stock arrives they'll send mine out.

They're expecting stock sometime this week, worst case scenario is up to 3 weeks - he did say I've waited 1 already though so it'll be next week at the latest apparently.

*fingers crossed*
