********** The all new "Official" iPhone 4S thread - Keep all the iPhone 4S stuff in here **********

I can't see there being much of an improvement in speed. iOS isn't exactly demanding on the iPhone 4 hardware, iOS 5 won't be much different.

I'm not an iPhone fan, but I'm not biased; I buy whatever I think is best. And for the biggest selling phone on the market, the upgrade is a bit crap quite frankly. It just isn't that different to the last model, if you factor in day-to-day usage, which is the most important thing.

As for the 4S being a good marketing idea...it really could swing either way. It is going to be a split between those that look at it and go, "that's the same", and those that want the best, even if they don't know the difference.

I'll be honest...certainly doesn't make me feel inadequate with my DHD :P

The annoying thing for most Apple fans is that they could have announced the speed bump in July like the 3GS, but instead it was delayed, most probably because of Siri.

A lot is banking on the success of Siri, tbh.

Are you kidding? Siri requires a data connection, so it's not going to be super fast as you'll have to wait for their servers to work out what you said, I can't imagine it took that long to integrate. Now if Siri was all in the device, that would have been cool.

Perhaps the fact that Tim Cook has just taken over has had an effect on all this. This is essentially another Jobs launch just without him there. It will help apple as a company if the first iphone that Cook releases is a brand new device in every way. That will be the iphone 5.

Well I'll be upgrading, from 3GS.

From an iPhone 4 point of view, as 4S deals haven't been announced - what's the best (value) network at present?

Hard to say. From a coverage point of view, Orange/T-Mobile are the winners there. But as an Orange user, the network can behave strangely at times.

I've read O2 are a lot more "solid" but the 3G coverage is poorer.

How do people stand with insurance, Can you get good damage/Theft cover for under about £10pm?. I have no idea. This will be my first iphone.

Cheers

Do you think it will be possible to get the 4S 16gb for ~£25-30 on contract.

I currently have a Tesco £12.50 contract (5000text, 500min, 1gb data) thats 4 months in. I plan on selling my 3GS for around ~£200 and buying a phone for £300 more.

If I can get it for £25 a month though, I will do that and bin the sim. I think it will be more like £35 a month and for 24 months though

Well I'm upgrading to a 4 of some description as I've had it with Android.

To be honest the 4 does everything I need so I may as well save some money and get that. But looking at the prices, it's only £70 difference between the 4 8GB and 4S 16GB so the 4 makes no sense at all, I may as well spend the extra.

Somehow I think Apple realised a decently discounted iP4 8GB would dent sales of the 16GB 4S too much and so came up with this frankly pathetic price.

Hmm not sure if I'll upgrade from my 3G to this, was hoping for NFC. Love paying for stuff at work on my ID, wish more phones had the feature.

I personally think it is worth joining one of your bank's upgraded curretn account programmes. A lot (e.g., NatWest Select Silver) include iPhone insurance for ~£8pcm. Plus you get other stuff e.g., travel insurance.
