********** The all new "Official" iPhone 4S thread - Keep all the iPhone 4S stuff in here **********

Can someone who transferred their number using a PAC code confirm something.

When sending a message via iMessage it comes up with the phone number on the sim rather than the transferred one, is this meant to happen?

Means people with an iPhone won't recognise my number... If this is the case, anyway to stop it automatically using iMessage?

Yeah but 2 hours of 3G surfing and it's practically dead! It's just not practical. I'll try a hard reset tonight - Hopefully it'll be a bit better...

After you hard reset it leave the phone blank for half a day or something to test the battery usage, this will help tell if it's a OS problem or some app screwing around.

Okay so charge it to full battery, do a hard reset and leave the phone half the day and see it's battery percentage?

Charge to 100%, wipe the phone clean, use the phone as normally as possible with no apps installed for half a day to test if the battery drain is better.

Out of interest, did you restore from a previous backup of an iP4 onto your 4S? Or start from scratch?

I never restore from backups.

My mantra is you're just copying problems across with you. It's best to start from scratch in my opinion.

I can see how some might not want to do this. The initial sync/setup takes a few hours.

Thats what i'm wondering.... Just tried a hard reset as suggested above, will see how it is tonight and overnight...

If not then its a restore tomorrow for my 4S! :D

So, second time round, I took the phone off charge on tuesday morning around 7am and its now at 8% almost 3 days later. Around 8 hours usage over that period (Stats have reset though, so cant give a screenshot). Standard stuff, checking messages, facebook, twitter, internet, games, app store, few calls, mail, etc. Whatsapp and Words with friends on push. Bluetooth on twice a day for around 40 minutes.

I will be doing this also - Going to do a hard reset once fully charged, then see how it performs. Have also removed all apps from the multitasking bar.

If not, then I'll restore my phone and try that :(

I am having the battery issues.Have had the phone a week and its terrible.I am disabling so much of it now to see if i can stretch the charge out turing off all location stuff etc but it seems no use.My old samsung taco lasts 3 days still and thats nearly 3 years old.I did a full charge at dinner trickle charging etc and by 4 oclock it was down to 70% with no wifi or anything on a 5 minute call and 3 texts :( .
Just trying to optimize the battery over the weekend but if i get no joy i will either change it or cancel my contract.Still got 7 days to cancel.
Very dissapointed for my 1st smart phone.Have turned everything off now its just a nokia 3210 in nice packaging

It's pretty much the norm to have to charge a smart phone every day, but an overnight charge has always worked for me.

My 4S is sat at 40% with wifi,location,bt,3g - everything on and average usage - a bit of Facebook, email, texts, a few phone calls etc.

It's not amazing, but it's not what I'd consider unacceptable enough to get shot of it.

What is this battery optimisation business you speak of?

Update from me

That includes calls, texts, calendar alerts, notifications, email fetch every hour, siri on, icloud on, wifi speed tests (for my work) and has served me well all day.

Hasn't been charged all day, been a busy boy with work as well.

Does anyone know if the White version is still millimeters thicker than the Black of the 4S? I got my White 32GB today and was trying on an Incase slider case (used one before with my iPod Touch 4G and loved it), but it was incredibly tight. It said for iPhone 4 on the casing and I'm guessing that specific case was released months ago, it wouldn't say 'iPhone 4S' as well.

So I'm wondering if it matters if a case doesn't mention 'iPhone 4S' specifically, or if there's still the issue of cases being a tight fit with White iPhones?

I can't rember the exact term but you need to run the battery through a few complete cycles (full drain then full charge)I'm trying it now.

Usage 3:24 . Standby 5:54 and at 23% :(

I had this. In the end i took my sim out, erased all content and settings, then set the phone up again as new. After that my transferred number was shown correctly in imessage and phone apps.

Might not need to do all that, it may be taking the sim out and powering down will do the trick.
