********** The all new "Official" iPhone 4S thread - Keep all the iPhone 4S stuff in here **********

For the past few months my 4S has been randomly dropping calls or loosing signal.

Anyone else experienced the same problems and does it sound like it needs to be replaced?

What software are you running? I'm guessing it's 5.0.1 but want to double check as I seem to get a very quick drop in signal on 5.1b2 and others have reported the same on the dev forums

It's actually a widespread problem, if you check the apple support forums.

It's made my phone nearly useless as it gets stuck on No Service or Searching...

Apparently the new 5.0.1 v2 was released to help fix the No Sim problem.

Yet people are still having these problems.

I just bought a 4S brand new which was locked to O2. Cut down my sim card and the carrier is detected as O2-UK, however I can't get a signal at all. Connected it to Itunes and activated it but still no joy. Not going as smoothly as I 'd hoped. :(

I am running 5.0.1.

I had not heard about 5.0.1 v2 but after a quick search would I be correct in stating that it is only available to developers at the moment? Also, shouldn't it be called 5.0.2...?

When/If I get the time to go to Apple for a replacement I will post how I get on.

Nah 5.1 is in beta with the developers at the moment.

They released an update 5.0.1 which only incremented the build version by 1, should be able to get it by updating via iTunes, the latest one was for the SIM issues people had been having as said above

Hmm, strange one. O2-UK carrier detected and 3G appears on screen, but no signal bars. I can surf the web without any issues but when I try and make a call or a text I either get 'Call failed' or 'text failed'.

Waiting on an official mini-sim to see if my cut down sim is the issues but at present I'm regretting picking the iPhone.

It may seem obvious, but have you tried restarting the phone? During the initial period of getting the phone up and running, little odd things can sometimes occur that a restart can solve.

Right just been on O2 chat, who with the IMEI I provided told me the brand new phone was barred, and advised me only the original contract owner can lift the barring. I've sent the seller an email via Ebay, then I'll take it from there. Hopefully I won't have to go through the whole Paypal claims. (thankfully I saved the transcript).

Re signal woes. I'm on O2 and I get pretty miffed when I see just about everyone else using Facebook etc on the train at Waterloo while my iPhone attempts to 'update page'.

My BlackBerry is also O2 and constantly has a better signal.

Sounds like you were sold a stolen phone.

I bought an iPhone 4S 16GB (White) as a Christmas present to myself last week, upgrading from an iPhone 4 16GB. So far I'm liking the speed difference in certain apps and while Siri is a bit of a gimmick at the moment, it's fun to play around with. The battery life is about the same but I've been stuck with the dreaded "Searching..." and "No Service" two or three times when coming out of a bad service area, usually sorts itself out after 5 mins or so but I'm having far fewer dropped calls than on my iPhone 4 which is a huge bonus. So all in all, not sure it was worth £500 SIM Free but it's a damned sight better than the Nokia Lumia 800 I bought before the 4S!

Got a foofbag coming for my iPad 2 and 4S early in the new year :D

Just upgraded from a 16GB IP4B to a 16GB IP4SW!

Deal was £240 for the phone @ £42 PM for 12 months.

I can't really fault o2's service so I'm sticking with them.

Just as a heads up.

I mentioned the wifi and dropped call problem and they gave me a "new phone."
