Could you please try listening to the bell tower ring tone and let me know if you hear any distortion through it. Again the phone has to be pretty close. Just want to fully rule out a speaker problem before I go ten days without a phone.

Weird, mAybe we have different versions of normal, my sisters sounds distorted to through the ringtone. When I've asked Siri a question the beeping I get after that sounds badly distorted to. It's strange because I thought the 4 and 4s used a different speaker.

Seems like the speaker thing I was describing is normal Robbo. I called Apple up and it's because the audio drivers and loaded and un-loaded. The slight hissing noise is the speaker turning on getting reasdy for any audio that's to be played.

It isn't the speaker... it's just the audio hardware in general. I can hear the slight hissing clearly through earphones in the period after I pause a song. I suspect it occurs through the speaker as well, although it's so quiet even through earphones that I don't know how anyone could possibly be bothered by it!

[edit] Yes, I can hear it through the speaker as well. But only when the phone is literally an inch or less from my ear, and only for a few seconds after it plays a sound. Never noticed that in four years of owning iPhones, and probably never would unless I deliberately looked for it!

Oh I always notice the tiny things :P Not bothered by it, just like to make sure it's normal. :) But I'm still worried if my speaker may be faulty because of some distortion I get on it i.e with Siri after I've asked it a question, the high pitched beep noise after it's recognised my voice always sounds a bit muffley and vibratey. Do you notice this to?

I don't think iphone 5 will be coming this year at all. Not if apple has any business sense. Considering most of the features iphone 4s was sold on the back of are still not utilised and "personal assistant" is still just a useless novelty for anyone outside US, considering most of iphone users are on 24 months contracts coming up with third iphone in the row that doesn't really do anything new or faster compared to 4, would just alienate everyone. Unless iphone 5 is some sort of docking mini CPU I'd say apple can only damage their market share if they don't stop chasing numbers instead of fixing what they already have. We don't need more megapixels, cores or power - get Siri working and fix the ****** battery life problems.
 
I might take my phone back into Carphone tomorrow, tell them about the distortion and see what they suggest. It doesn't sound normal, that's for sure. Speaker gets very vibratey. My battery life has been awful on this replacement phone to.
 
Just come back from the Covent Garden store to swap my 4s again, simple as.

I find it funny how many people literally doing the same thing every day.
 
I've had to swap out for some reason or another, every iPhone I've had. Which is every iPhone released... If it wasn't such an easy experience returning it and getting a new one, I'd have ditched the iPhone a long time ago

Oh and I'm a massive fan boy :p

Same, i'm glad it's so easy to swap.

I'm just waiting for the S3 to be released then force my mum to get that (her contract has run out) then take that and give her my 4s ;)
