********** The all new "Official" iPhone 4S thread - Keep all the iPhone 4S stuff in here **********

This is the same problem i suffer with, and i also have large hands (to the point where the 360 controller feels small, and the PS3 controller feels like its going to break), yet 4" + devices just don't feel comfortable to use/hold.

Yeah, if they could make a iPhone 4 size phone with the screen all the way to edges then that's perfect! Anything bigger feels like a tablet! :p

Currently have a 3GS. I use it for lots of web browsing mainly (apart from being a phone of course), hence why I want a bigger screen.

I've have played with Android phones, and I do like the sense ui on HTC phones.

Well, for mainly web browsing you'd probably get on well with an Android phone. You would mainly end up missing apps, and perhaps the iTunes services if you use them.

HTC Sense UI is excellent and certainly adds some nice polish to Android. Give the HTC Sensation a try in a shop and see what you think.

If you think it's a bit odd, just go for the 4S. It's not all that exciting but it's still very good.

Actually, the Samsung Galaxy II phone looks cool, what is their pricing?

I could easily run two phones, my 4S and the SGII.

In all honesty it will probably be a 16GB iPhone 4S, the new Amazon Kindle and an iPad 2 that I get.

Why on earth do you need MKV support on a phone?

I suppose it extends to h264 support. Broadly it is useful to be able to shove whatever I want on my phone to watch either on the go or output over HDMI to another screen. I can't be bothered to reencode stuff. It is useful to have a phone that is not crippled by software and that will allow me to try and squeeze the most out of it.

Before anyone starts screaming, i fully accepted IOS does some great things. The things it arbitrarily stops me doing irritates me beyond what I find acceptable. It absolutely eachto their own. Despite me liking android I love apples innovating and pathmaking the less I see of that the sadder I feel.

Nope, can't think of one. I've always been able to do what I wanted.

Back at you - Argue away....

Actually, I can. That extra .8 inch (vs SGSII) would certainly help me with my poor eyesight. If Android came close on the accessibility stakes, I'd have jumped ship, but they don't, and probably won't, so iPhone it is...

Ask the RNIB which phone a visually impaired person should get and you'll get two answers - Nokia (but only if running Symbian) and iPhone. Why? There's an expensive Nuance-based add-on for Symbian, and there's VoiceOver for iPhone. Android and Windows Phone don't even get a mention.

I do know about specs, but I also know that they only matter if the features you're using require them. I use my home laptop for browsing and not much else, so I gave my T7700-based laptop to charity and got an SU7300-based one instead. Half the clockspeed - and half the weight. Save playing 1080p video and a few flash games, both of which I can do without, it does what I need.

I heard that the iPhone has some kind of neat hearing-aid compatibility-accessibility-thingie, whats that all about? genuinely interested.

Is that the thing were it basically talks to you? I'm sure I switch that on when drunk, same with the visually impaired thing, I always switch that on when drunk too :p

No clue why.

90% of end users would not CARE any of that.

The other 10% that does? How many % of that 10% actually think hard about it, and how many % take into consideration of the OS too?

Most people just want an iPhone, because its cool. Because it is fashionable.

End of story.

The crap that is being argue in these parts represents (at a wild guess) LOW single digits % of the sales.

are you kidding me?

I have a 3g. Apple don't segregate their apps for quality on older handsets - they approve an app built for the latest phone for ALL handsets.

what do I get? a previously good quality 3g is now a useless pile of ****. I can't load google maps without it crashing once - EVERY TIME.

The basic functions like texting and bringing up the phone book can take ages... THE PHONE BOOK! It's just a small list of names, I don't even know how a phone can struggle with such a concept when the phones from the mid 90's had no problems doing this.

Not only this but someone said about great support? What support do I get? all the apps in app store I can use to an EXTREMELY poor standard for the simple fact that apple WANT me to upgrade to part with more money, when I was completely happy with my phone.

Even upgrades (bug fixes) on applications have resulted in poor performance. You say why should anyone care? because not long from now the 3gs is going to have the same issues I'm having because the apps are built to use the power the later phones have. e.g 1gb ram/dual core processor etc.

saying "90% of end users would not CARE any of that." is like saying "90% of PC users would not CARE any of that." If it were a pc comparison.

afraid so...terrible habit of yours! Hahahahaha
The products that come to mind are original Mac Air, 3GS and now 4S

I'd say the 3GS and 4S are mid cycle/generation products. Much like the MacBook Pros getting a speed bump on the processors and standard storage/RAM configurations. It's a shame they get so hyped up though. Just unfortunate that the 4S has been so long in the running, July would have been passable but maybe Steve Jobs stepping down has had it's role to play?

The original MacBook Air was alright. I was a massive skeptic of it when it was first released but once i held one and had a play i was sold...well...if it wasn't for it's price tag. It was a nice bit of kit and unlike any other "netbook" of its time (full size keyboard, weight, size, cpu). The latest i5/i7 ones are fantastic mind though but i'd still pick a 13" MacBook Pro over those ones. Horses for courses though, if you do a lot of travelling the Air is great.

Hope this puts things into perspective.

*SNIP*

I have issue with that image.

Mainly the SII has the fastest CPU, bigger/biggest battery yet half the video hours of the iP4S. Does that really make it better overall?

A number of those points are also very opinionated.

My 2p anyway.

agreed possibly...I'm not knocking them for it, it's worked very well in the past, and if you pull it off profits are fantastic! But, once again, I feel this one is just slightly aimed too low, the traction in the mobile market is extreme for some manufacturers. They release so many phones at so many price points and with different features that Apple may get left behind with their small line-up. Just my opinion of course, could be (and probably will be) proved 100% wide of the mark!

I know everybody's using silly examples and poor analogies but come on...

As someone who has both, as the LG is a superb phone and makes me so happy but for one huge problem ; it has massive reliability problems that he still not been resolved. But For that, the LG is excellent.

PS quite scarily, the phones I have in my house are
Optimus 2x
DHD
GS2
Hero

And I had an iPhone 4 until July

I think apple have got it right with their line up to be honest - why flood the market with low/mid/high quality products when you are trying to pass your company off as a maker of high quality products? I think it would hurt their image and in the long run their sales more to do it that way as people like the idea of having a quality phone from a quality brand.

I 100% agree. I had hoped for more on this release but maybe the next iPhone will be even better and come even sooner because of it...i hope...i'll be up for renewal then too. :p

Yeah right. All they care about is if you can get Facebook App on it, play Angry Birds and if they can use it like an iPod.

No word of a lie i sold an iPhone to a work colleague of my other halfs (she lost hers) and she burst into tears because it didn't have FaceBook on the phone.

cue me facepalm.jpg

She had absolutely no idea that you could download apps on the phone or that there was an app store for that matter.
