********** The all new "Official" iPhone 4S thread - Keep all the iPhone 4S stuff in here **********

I'm getting a 4s, sold my iphone 4 last week for a tidy tidy profit ready for what they will be releasing yesterday, yes i'm annoyed but still gunna upgrade :)

No point, you can't reason with the Android crew :p The same people slating those who plan to upgrade to a 4s (even if its a huge jump like 3g/3gs to 4s) because it "offers nothing" are probably those who'll jump from SGS II to the new Nexus for nothing more then a spec bump.

im jumping for a pure android phone, one of my pet hates about android is 3rd party programs are added but the vanilla flavour is not offered, (u can get there with rooting and removing apps, but still) u know when you buy a laptop u can format and just stick windows on without the added crud,

and trust me if new nexus phone is just rehashed then i will moan about that too...

lastly i can understand why die hards would upgrade, i don't have an issue with that, i just thought the spec of the new phone and using the existing shell was a bit of a mick take to you loyal lot... with the premium apple make you take contracts for.

Are these the same people who said there would be 2 phones?

Are these the same people who said there would be an iPhone5?

The whole iPhone release was moved as they wanted the WWDC to be about software and not about the latest iPhones and iPods. I can't see them changing this at all.

If anything I would bet on a longer period between releases due to the fact most people are on an 18/24 month contract. Is there a need to release every 12 months? (I know the Sim-only people can upgrade but I doubt they make up a large majority of the paying population, however I have no source for this information and will happily be proved wrong if some one found such info :) )

There's still no denying it is a 5th iPhone just not called the 5!

What happens if the next one comes out and it's called the iPhone stealth will be kick off cos it's not got the number 5 or maybe 6 (if they keep it to the amount of phones that are out)

Siri assistant worked on iphone 3gs before apple bought the company, now you need an A5 processor for it, lol apple.

Siri will be as usefull as facetime, fun for 2 days :D

some voice commands are available now but when i try to use it the recognition is so weak i have to keep taking out my iphone and cancelling a call or music request.

i will use this if it works.... but the video on the apple site is so unrealistic its a joke.

wont be upgrading from my 4. like some bits in ios 5, but the keynote speech annoys me as it seems to me all the features "they thought of" were already available in cydia and have been for years....

Apple fan boys in to much money shock.

Siri is a gimmick that will never take off.
Stupidly long wait for an upgrade for 4 to 4S
64gig is nice but they will put the price sky high!

O hello Desire HD how brilliant you are and only a year left on my contract? woohoo.

Just looking at this objectively.

We're going from a downclocked iPad 1 ARM A8 single core to a standard clocked iPad2 ARM A9 dual core.

So we should be looking at a performance boost similar to the difference between the iPad2 and iPad1 right? (Or, given the lower clocks on the A8, it should be an even bigger boost?).

Well that seems pretty damn good to me, if you look at benchmarks for the two iPads the A9 wipes the floor with the A8 both in CPU and GPU.

Or am I missing something?

Thinking about it, It looks to me were meant to release the iPhone 5, had the design and prototypes for it but something wasn't right, which explains the delay. So therefore they shoved it all in an iPhone 4 with the same screen.
That's what i hope happened anyway, i'm trying to justify not hating Apple for this i think lol

I cant help wondering that too. There were just so many rumours about the bigger screen/teardrop design that I find it hard to believe it was completely unfounded – add in NFC as well and it's a little fishy.

Yes it is the 5th iPhone, but the term "iPhone5" was reserved for a phone that would have a bigger screen, increased specs, re-designed case etc...

So in those respects... there is no iPhone5, there is a 5th iPhone, but it is the iPhone4S.

I was merely commenting on the specs of the iPhone5 and not the numbering pattern ;)

So Apple now have a faster, more powerful phone with a significantly better battery life without everyone having to redesign/rebuy all the accessories.

Makes sense to me! :)

Can you explain what you mean by 'significantly better battery life' are you meaning against the old iphone 4 or the S2?

The only place I can see the S2 would suffer is in video play back, and that's due to the fact that the screen area is massive in comparison.

I'm confused, if they had taken all these upgrades and put them in a different case and called it an iphone 5 people would be happy, but simply becasue of the name and same case everyone is moaning.

I havn't really been keeping up to date with phone specs as I am happy with my iphone 4 still, but compared to the samsungs, and htc's is this 4S stil slower or now leading the pack?

Is that a good thing then? Move more from device to the cloud....fine until there is a problem
Same with Kindle Fire's browser, great till you can't get a signal or the service dies. I can see the privacy people will have a field day with this....they record your speech and process it, and keep it to improve the service? Potential minefield....

Hardware wise I personally believe it's 6 months too late and just a catch up...others WILL disagree. It's not leading the pack in any way hardware wise....

This was always going to happen to be perfectly honest. Apple have done it for the last couple of generations now (3g>3gs>4...), so it's not really a surprise there was no iPhone 5.

I think something went a little bit wrong somewhere that it took so long to get the 's' to market, but I have a feeling you will see the iPhone 5 sometime next summer, as per their usual release schedule.
