********** The all new "Official" iPhone 4S thread - Keep all the iPhone 4S stuff in here **********

I was waiting for the Iphone 5 and was quite unhappy that it's taken this long and all the suspense for a rehashed and upgraded iphone 4.

I am unsure of what to do now, wanted a 4 but was in a contract already so wanted to skip and miss it out straight to a 5.

So it's either get a 4 which will be cheaper, but going by prices still bloody exspensive for something a 1+ old or the new 4s or SGS2.

Most of Siri's processing is done server-side. There's very little CPU strain.

As far as the processing of natural language sentence structures goes yes, most of it is done server-side, but the actual voice recognition is done solely on the device itself. High accuracy with normal human speech in a natural tone does require bit of CPU clout.

Has there been any indication on prices for tariffs yet, will it just replace what the current iphone 4 goes for?

I have to get my brother in law a phone this week, he's pestering me to get it but I should obviously hold off till at least Friday to see what things will be priced at, moving from orange to Vodafone/02.

Different case = potential for bigger screen.
Bigger screen is pretty much top of the iPhone want list.

For you perhaps, but the vast majority are happy with screen size and if Apple really thought it was something people wanted they would have changed it. There are plenty of manufacturers who do cater for large screens if that is the be all and end all.

I want one even more but really can't justify the price :(

Even the 4 still looks a better option if the price goes down (used my sisters 4 and been very impressed with it)

The name thing is pretty obvious now we all look at it, externally is similar to 4 but internally its better, so its not a 5. Still a good upgrade to a phone line either way.

few of the sample photos resized, the colours and sharpness is amazing

So Siri is going to be iPhone 4S only?

I do hate it when Apple save features for their new phones. That is the only thing that makes me want a 4S. I've always wished i could just talk to my phone to do simple tasks. Texting while driving is something i've always wanted.

Siri has licensed the the speech recognition from Nuance, given all the Android handsets flext9 runs on there is no requirement for the 4S Apple have just chosen not to allow it on anything less, same as how Apple claimed the original iPhone couldn't do MMS.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that it requires an A5 at all, I was just pointing out that not everything is done server-side :)

You can do that on the GS2 and it works very well.

I am glad yesterday was a fail of epic proportions because Apple will not be getting any of my money. Don't get me wrong the 4S will be a great phone and a very good upgrade for those on 3G or 3GS who must have an iPhone but it has simply caught up to the competition and in some ways still lags behind. Very soon I have no doubt it will be blown out the water.

It is sad watching people defend Apple when deep down they know yesterday was a massive massive let down. It you want the best technology available, like a lot of people do, it is not an iPhone, harsh but true.
