***THE BF4 BENCHMARKS THREAD***

It is still the most demanding setting and Medium has more foliage but looks naff.

Nope. If you get the medium (i.e. full ultra) to activate it is more demanding and everything looks way better. I was shocked as to how much better Golmud Railway looked with all the proper terrain decoration on...

It is a faff though because you have to remember to change it back to ultra before quitting then change it back to medium when you restart the game.

I have a few mins before work, I will test again.

Ok, so did some real quick testing and did the redeploy thing after changing each setting. Settings were "Ultra-High-Medium-Low" and I flicked between each 4 and then redeployed. As you can see, Ultra is the most demanding and medium gave me the second highest frames (with Low giving me the highest of 200).

And the sad thing is most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference between them :D

They all looked the same till they are at 1080P size and then you can clearly see. For me, Ultra looks good but me setting it to Ultra apparently is doing it wrong and I need to set it to medium to get Ultra details with the highest impact, that wasn't highest detail but impact because low is the new high and medium is the new Ultra :D

Confused? I am :p

Hm, you still haven't managed to get proper ultra on that yet.

It should look like this. Honestly you will notice the difference on any map once you get it working. Grass and shrubs everywhere.

You need it to look like this

Hmm. So does this also apply to those of us who have applied custom? I set everything to Ultra and set 4X MSAA, which puts it into 'custom' mode.

What a crock.

EDIT: Seems it's just the terrain decoration level that is bugged.

Some players (including myself) we can't get the same rendering of vegetation (Terrain Decoration) . (See: Low (thus Ultra)).

Windows 8.1 x64 + HD7970

Here is my "Terrain decoration" level .
Ultra (so, Low): http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2013/46/1384456734-screenshotwin32-0036.png [image.noelshack.com]
Low (so, High): http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2013/46/1384456744-screenshotwin32-0037.png [image.noelshack.com]
Medium (so, Ultra) : http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2013/46/1384456766-screenshotwin32-0038.png [image.noelshack.com]

What a crock.

It is a bit random. Basically you have to start the game with terrain decoration set at ultra (so set it to ultra before you last close the game). Then change it to medium, redeploy, and you should have loads more grass, bushes, rocks and ground details. It does impact framerates though but if you have a powerful graphics solution then it shouldn't be too much of a hit.

If you then restart the game with medium, it will be a terrible medium ( i.e. worse than the WRONG ultra).

To be honest it is such a faff I just leave it all on ultra as usual and do without the extra detail most of the time.

Hopefully they will fix it in the next patch though.

What I am starting to think is that maybe the setting where there is loads of grass and shrubs was never meant to be in the game (i.e. DICE took it out as they thought it would be too demanding)? But then due to some bug it is still there and you can activate it by starting the game with it set to ultra then turning it down to medium.

Yeah I can't get my head around the behavior of that setting :( depending on what you apply when it can have very different outcomes. I was faffing about with it on the test range and had it all after a few restarts setup how I wanted but then when I joined a server to play it applied proper ultra settings killing my fps and it took ages to get it to stick to lower settings again. Then when I wanted to try ultra again it took a few restarts before it would actually render ultra ingame with any settings.
