***THE BF4 BENCHMARKS THREAD***

I was a massive coward when it came to W8 but so easy to use and I never use the Metro screen and only desktop. It took 5mins to get used to, as everything is similar to W7. Worth the move I say Rob.

Had a round of bf4 just now. Odd spike or two here and there but generally pretty good. Hardcore server so reg was much better than normal. Currently running a stock system to bed in yet another cpu. Will see if i can get the nephew to bring me up a copy of 8.1 this weekend.

Lol, your cpu obsession is an illness bud.

Its pretty hard to say really as theyre so random. Examples being, scoping in/out, explosion going off, getting shot at/shooting at something or someone, turning quickly, entering/exiting vehicles. I tend to play mostly uk servers, few european ones mainly dutch or german.

Looking forward to that, being a 4gb user. :)

Just did a little test using the res scale at 200% (4K) and logging peak GPU memory usage, 64 man SoS, Custom ultra, no AA, SBAO, high post and everything else ultra, peaked at 2660mb according to GPU-Z. Frames averaged somewhere between 75-90fps, highs in the low 100's and lows in the high 60's. Tbh the game didn't look any better/worse then it does at 1080 4xmsaa.

So in reality I think BF4 will be fine with 4K, throw in the monumental PPI gain of going from 1080 over 24" and 4k over 28" and I doubt I'd notice any reduced settings.

As a rough guess for Vram at 4K with todays titles (sleeping dogs excluded as its complete BS of a game and code); Were back at the grunt to drive playable frames at said vram requirement again. Anything from dual 280/770-4GB should hold up pretty well.

Some people just need to loose the idea of "must have max ultra super-dooper settings on EVERYTHING!!!!!" and get their heads around the resolution being pumped into a sub 30" screen basically wipes out the immediate need for masses of AA.

Lads i ordered a FG2421 i couldn't resist at £369 but i have a HD4600 at the minute as i did a clearout, And i have funds and a disdain for multi-gpu's. What would i need to keep minimums over 100 at 99% of times Ultra 1080p?

Am i going to have to hedge my bets on Tonga in August and Mantle or is there a chance the 880Ti and the new Nvidia drivers might just nail it? What do you get on say 780Ti so i could gauge how far off i am going to be with a 30% increase in power if indeed they pull it off on 28nm. My old 580 could pull around 25fps so i am going to guess i am going to need 4x that and around 3GB of vram as a minimum.

Tbh I would go for a single 290/780-6gb now then see how the new cards shape up if and when they arrive.

100fps+ on a single card should be easy done, you may need to shuffle around the odd setting, but nothing that should really harm the eye candy.

I have learned patience so i can wait i am not fond of the 290x or 780 to be fair it is very late now in the lifecycle for £400 and £550 and then have to compete on the MM with cleaned up cards a lot older.

Im curious as to the minimums in heavy action with two though, I reckon if i can chop 30% off whatever people get i could judge maybe if it is even worth waiting. Or as you say look for a cheap 290X somewhere and hold out for 16nm.

A cheap 2nd hand7970/280x would also be ok options until next gen hits
