***THE BF4 BENCHMARKS THREAD***

I would imagine it go's through a stringent testing cycle before merging with retail, the last thing dice need is to update it and it feel fantastic yet have some undiscovered game breaking bug.

Cte is for premium members only.

Will try get time to download it at the weekend.

As for the dc device hung error, I've had that at stock a few times.

I dont think all premium players get access to it. Basically they select people at random. Thers supposed to be another patch for vanilla bf4 in september. Hopefully some of the changes will be included in it.

Unigine benchmarks are a poor indication of stability. Current, demanding games are by far the best and most stressful way of testing.

Thought as much - shame that I hate it when games crash as it is harder to know if the cause is an unstable overclock or directx or drivers or the game is missing files or the game has been released incomplete or... the list goes on.

Fortunately I leave BF3 on overnight so will just use that for testing; I assume that it is modern enough for the job.

As for BF4, I still can't stand the vanilla game. But CTE looks really promising, shame that so very few people play on the classic server.

I've not heard of any premium people not being able to get access at the moment. Just go to the CTE battlelog and sign in as usual and it will add the game to your origin.

As some of you may know, our team at DICE LA is working hard to finish the next game update for Battlefield 4, aiming at a release in September. Meanwhile, we’re continuing to utilize the Battlefield 4 Community Test Environment to gather feedback and make various improvements to the game.

Core Gameplay Update

The current CTE initiative revolves around making the core gameplay of Battlefield 4 even better. This initiative has been in full swing for a little over two months now, and we’ve made a lot tweaks and changes that we hope you have enjoyed. As we’re nearing the end of this initiative and the release of the next Battlefield 4 update, these are the major fixes that it will include.

Game Mode Improvements
General improvements and tweaks have been made to the following game modes: Rush, Obliteration, Obliteration Competitive, Capture the Flag and Carrier Assault.

Visual Recoil
Close and medium range optic reticules do not move with the gun any longer, however both bullet spread and bullet drop are still present.

Soldier Movement
Changes have been made to soldier movement so that it closely matches the one in Battlefield 3, but without compromising the visual fidelity. This change also makes it easier to get away from undesirable firefights.

Additionally, we’ve dampened third person hit reactions where the soldier previously moved his head around a lot when getting shot at.

HUD Triage
Focusing on clarity, and de-cluttering the HUD/UI to only show what is important – we have added several options and functionality to make your screen much less cluttered (and give you a lot of choice in making it the way you want).

Revive Mechanic Improvements
A special effort went into making revives easier to use, more robust and easier to understand. Additions include a “fully charged” paddle sound, UI indication on revive time and better networked ragdolls.

“Netcode” Improvements
Making ping differences, trade kills and kills behind cover less of an issue by lowering the time allowed to damage on the client side.
Automatic High Frequency Update setting enforced with the intent of release to all platforms, including Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Improvements to bullet damage times from client to client, “dusting” and de-syncs.

Vehicle Balance
Identifying and tweaking the top vehicles in need of buffs and nerfs.

Weapon Balance
We’ve focused on maintaining a consistent Time To Kill (how long an average engagement lasts for). With the changes to visual recoil, the third person hit reactions and improved “tickrates” has been sped up somewhat as we still need to balance this with damage and recoil changes.
Suppression systems has also been re-tuned and made clearer.

What’s next?

The next initiative on the CTE will be called the Teamplay Initiative. Here we will focus on improving teamplay and the objective aspects of playing Battlefield. This will include everything from Commander, Squads, Field Upgrades and Game Mode improvements, features and bug fixes.

Taking part in the CTE

To take part in early content, feature and improvement testing, you need to own Battlefield 4 Premium. To sign up for the Community Test Environment, visit http://cte.battlelog.com.

And as always – a big THANK YOU to all the players who have helped or is helping making us make Battlefield 4 a better game to play!

Yep, quite a large amount to download. Took me 14 hours to download CTE last week. Had some rounds on it tonight, still died an awful lot as per vanilla lol. But it's such a nice change to have no stutter or huge cpu spikes. Game runs unbelievably quick.

Ahh, all premium players now. Handy enough. Cant wait till the new changes, particularly the netcode improvements. Played some ordinary bf4 just now. Absolute mess of a game.

I'm excited about the changes too, but I've been playing vanilla BF4 solid for two weeks now and it's been absolutely perfect for me for a long time performance/smoothness wise. Bug wise it's been ok since the ticket update, but still needs work.

I've tried everything I can think of/read on various forums etc mate, but its still the same. Only thing I haven't done so far is change os. If the changes do come in I shouldn't need to do this.

I really hate how far ISPs have fallen behind with the internet speed we need nowadays. CTE took 20 hours to DL for me and whilst it was doing that everyone else's internet was dead slow. And yet people in cities are getting upgraded from 100 down to 150+.

Rant over.

Back to BF4; does anyone know of a guide that explains what each of the video settings does in BF4. Nvidia wrote a really good one for BF3 that allowed me to pick and choose settings that mattered but in BF4 all the names are very generic and could affect anything.

So I played a couple of rounds of CTE tonight and experienced 0 spikes in CPU and GPU usage with a single 780 and [email protected]. Would say that the old i5 still has plenty of life in her.
Aye, any recent i5/i7 will be grand for this game. Ill fire up a few results when i get the second 780 installed this week. Dont really need another at my current res, so next upgrade will be a new monitor. This old benq is over 6 years old now and 1920x1200 just feels old hat now.

I wont be playing bf4 vanilla anymore, CTE is too nice to bother with vanilla untill they patch it. I aim i shoot i hit people.

how can the same game be so different, frames are up 20 fps on any 60 player map i play.

by the time they patch this game bf5 will be out, and im not spending another £70 on a 1/2 finished game.

Good in the sense cte is a lot better, but bad in the sense of how long its taken them to beta test it.

I don't even have the vanilla game installed, CTE is just so much better.
Shame that CTE had to come so late after the game released as most people have just left the game in the dirt.

And I don't think anyone will be willing to spend money on another BF game for a while. Especially with BFH being such a loose cannon and pre orders being a joke nowadays.

humbug posted up a possible fix for the stuttering in vanilla in pc games sub forum. Thought id link it here.

Havent tried it myself yet, just closed battleslug which is also a tip in the vid.

I have spikes very rarely in bf4, i just cannot stand how bf4's game mechanics work, cte just feels nicer.

Yeah i never pre order anything anymore, unless its something of an unknown like 7 days to die and dayz were, £12 and £14 for a game in alpha and beta which is very enjoyable with friends is well worth it. £74.99 what i paid for bf4 premium was good at first with friends, but quickly became very annoying. Even if i come top in a map ( rarely happens ) i cringe at some of the kills i get that must annoy the other people.
