Okay just went back on for another hour and found a good few more trails than last time - physically saw just one deer though and it got away 
Any tips would be good

hmm, i dont get it. ive logged in, downloaded and installed, then went to clean car.
Come back and can't see it anywhere in start menu. I've found it in my program files but can't seem to start the game
you have to launch the game via the website

Don't think you can. I had to change mine on the mouse (Razer Lachesis).

I walked up to the corpse...Click the button, brought up the PDA with all the details, then exited....I even have a video to prove it! Quite a long shot as well...ish.
From 259ft away apparently :) Could hardly see the thing.
