I swear this game trolls me with install/shader times!

Doesn't look like they'll be doing anything about VRAM usage at least they've not mentioned anything

These are the issues they are looking at. Notice how they say there is a potential memory leak - but memory leak is not something that degrades your performance straight away, the game would run fine and then slow down after playing for a while and require a reboot. If your game is slow from the get go due to vram then a memory leak fix won't help you
  • Loading shaders takes longer than expected
  • Performance and stability is degraded while shaders are loading in the background
  • Older graphics drivers leads to instability and/or graphical problems
  • Game may be unable to boot despite meeting the minimum system requirements
  • A potential memory leak
  • Mouse and camera jitter for some players, depending on hardware and display settings
  • Corrupted-appearing/neon textures in game
  • [The Quarantine Zone] Playable characters and NPCs could randomly appear wet
  • [The Quarantine Zone] Tess NPC may T-pose and float

Yes exactly. I have a 3080Fe and was hoping for better

Well the good news is that this big patch has meant some noticeable improvements over the previous hotfix.

1: The game loads quicker now, the launch game loaded a save in 43 seconds, the last hotfix increased save loads to over 1 minute, now the load time has gone back down to 43 seconds.

2: The shader compilation was weird, first load after this big patch and nvidia hotfix driver re-install the main screen showed 98% compiled within 20 seconds and I thought it was done. Loaded the game and played all fine, circa 100fps. running nicely and CPU usage was not high as if shader comp was happening in the background. Just loaded it up now and it's looking like it's resuming compilation and started at 25%, I walked away to use the loo, came back within 5 mins and the compilation was done, so looks like this has been massively improved although I can't say exactly how long it took but must have been ~10 minutes - Weird but fine.

3: I also installed the hotfix Nvidia driver as mentioned above to see if the performance degrade seen in the pre-patch version of the game was sorted. It largely is. In the menus it seems to drop the fps to a bit over 60 it seems but when you go back into the game it's ~100. It's still lower than the non hotfix driver, but not by the 20 odd fps I was seeing before. Also no more crash with this patch + driver combo.

4: Mouse camera judder remains, we will be waiting a while for that I can feel it......

At least everything appears stable now, just that mouse jitter before I put a New game+ session on Survivor mode into play.

Must say these are great Nvidia drivers, although I did do a DDU/NVCLEANER on them, so far I haven't had a crash in Last of Us! In fact games across the board are performing very well :)

Still no mouse jitter fix, and for a company that prides itself on accessibility the game is still unplayable for many left-handers due to the arrow key issue, which doesn't even appear on their 'known issues' page, despite lots of people sending in tickets about it.

Yeah still can't play with mouse and keyboard, pick up controller and move around nice and smooth, look around with mouse and its a jitter fest.

Yesterday's patch appears to have done little for me. Loading into a save in the Capitol Building level crashes consistently within minutes. Have tried stock settings, validating game cache, clearing shaders etc, even setting a 50Gb pagefile. This is on AMD driver 23.4.1.

Anything else that's worth trying?

This game is incredibly linear even if it looks amazing!!! IF I WANT MY CHARACTER TO JUMP OFF THE EDGE OF A SKYSCRAPER, THEN THAT'S WHAT I WANT!! Ahhhhh

I have a Ryzen 75800x, GTX1080, 32 GB of RAM running Windows 11 and it runs fine on my system at 1440p resolution.
I havn't bothered looking at FPS but I have it on High settings and it plays very smoothly with no juddering, crashes or pauses.
Its very odd that people with a lot more powerful system are having so many problems

I'm barely hitting 60fps no matter what I set my quality settings to?

3440x1440 144hz
5800x3D
6800xt
32Gb RAM

Surely this ain't right ?? I know it's a terrible port and plenty more patches to come. But I'd imagine changing the quality settings would change the FPS.

I've had the same problem all along. 7900X and 3080. On latest driver + patches, I'm now getting 60-70fps which means the game is now playable (it wasn't at first, I was getting about 40 fps). Same issue as you though, lower settings don't help, in fact it makes it even worse in terms of FPS... not managed to find a solution, and I've tried everything I could think of plus what I've read on here and Reddit... it's strange for sure. Especially as not everyone is getting this issue, although I've found a few others on Reddit who have messaged me saying they have the same problem.
